This is how it should be. Or it should be clear before the event that the check will be shared.
I like to drink. Other people shouldn’t have to pay for my drinks if they are having water. Some drinks can be ridiculous expensive compared to others. Same goes for food. Just makes sense.
Honestly depends who in with.
I just figured splitting evenly makes life easier on the server.
If I invite people I will pay, if we are just hanging out then each person or family for them selves.
If i go way overboard i will offer to cover the tip in cash or something. Otherwise if my friends are so cheap they are going to quible over a few bucks i just wont bother eating with them.
It was always that way
This is how Gen Z does it, we split the check by item. If one of my friends is picking the 10.99 entree over the 14.99 entree largely due to cost, it’d be inconsiderate to have them pay an extra $3 on my tab. And that doesn’t even factor in tipping culture
My kids are on their own!
Some restaurants in Europe and Washington DC have ability to order per person and pay per person. Makes a lot of sense.
As a Canadian I have never split the check evenly. Either you pay for your own food or you pay for everyone.
Great editing job, Business Insider. It’s *themselves*.
