“Homeowners living opposite the site of the Park Street Hotel fear its luxury restaurant will turn “Mayfair into Soho” and have launched a legal fight against Westminster council after it granted the venue a licence.” Has any major city is the world got bigger NIMBY’s than London?

My sympathy for these people is at a very low level… tossers.
Wait.. stars go up to *six*?
There property value, is about to skyrocket……buy low sell high.
These people are extremely savvy and have expensive lawyers on speed dial, they’ll make a few quid in an out of court settlement and wait for the next fleece-able developer to come along.
Turn it into a wetherspoons
From the article:
“The town hall agreed its bar and restaurant could open until 11.30pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends last year.
…
One Fountain House resident, 62, whose family is involved in the oil and gas industry, told the Standard: “They want a late license so there will be loud music and a nightclub style atmosphere.
…
The 6-Star luxury boutique hotel would have just six to eight 8 bedrooms and self-contained residential apartments on the upper floors. A gym and spa are planned for the lower floors along with the restaurant, private dining rooms and two outdoor terraces.
The Park Street Hotel has insisted that the restaurant and it facilities will be restricted to residents of the hotel and their guests and there will be no public bar.”
Jesus Christ, an 11:30/midnight license for a private venue in an ultra exclusive aparthotel. The mental gymnastics required to equate that to a a nightclub is at Olympic level.
Yes, turning Mayfair into Soho, where stuff stays open as late as midnight on the weekends! The horror!!
In answer to the question in OP’s post, we don’t necessarily have the most NIMBYs, but the ones that we do have are certainly the most empowered as a result of our licensing laws and the powers we vest in local government.
