  1. “Chug chug chug” said Thomas, “must be a slow news day.”

  2. Brilliant news. More of this please Scottish Government.

  3. While we’re at it, can we reopen the cross-border line that passed from Berwick through Kelso and Hawick, and connect it to the new Tweedbank line?

Scottish Border towns are dying, Hawick for example is a ghost town these days, and the only way to reverse that is to connect them to where the money is, as to draw in tourism and retain younger workers.

The Borders is not just cut off from the rest of Scotland. Each town feels increasingly isolated from one another, which feeds into the issue of losing younger workers to more connected parts of the country. Almost every person I know who’s moved away from down there has done so because of this reason, and those I know who remain only do so because they have dependents that they can not leave behind.
