I can’t turn radiator in my apartment to the max at 5 ( the apartment has 4 radiators and all of them can only be turned to 4)
Is this a setting for the apartment that they do not allowed to use the max setting?
Just moved to this apartment not long ago and the previous apartment i was able to use the max setting on the radiator

  1. Looks like 4 is indeed the max setting in this apartment.

  2. Does the other end actually stop at 0 or go ‘below’? Maybe the plastic is just misaligned with the actual valve.

Or it’s a dangerous forbidden jutsu, you need a motivational flashback to crank it there.

  3. Newer energy-efficiency directions state that thermostats with 22-23c maximum should be used. Old thermostats used to have 26c maximum. This probably is a “retrofit” thermostat with the newer max limit.

    Most brands have 3=21c

With setting 4 you should have room temp ~22c near the thermostat so 20-21c at the center of room?

  4. You can look behind the white part and see if there are small nearly invisible limiter tabs installed. If there is those can be removed easily with small pliers or a flathead screwdriver.

  5. The 4 and 5 setting doesn’t make much difference if you have recently moved to Finland, from a warmer country, which is about 90% of the world😅

I just wear another layer of clothing to keep myself warm.

  6. That is a thermostat valve. There is an internal pre-set (which you cannot see from outside) that prevents too much flow on that radiator, as then the other radiators in the building would not get enough flow.

The visible part here sets the desired temperature in the space. Some thermostats show a celcius figure, some show this setting number. Temperature of the radiator is meaningless, only temperature of the space is relevant. Maximum temperature in an apartment is typically 21 degrees celcius, which probably corresponds to the setting 4 here.

Now you need to know, what is the air temperature of the apartment, measured roughly in the middle of the apartment, at shoulder height. If the temperature on average does not reach 21, time to call the service. If you do not know the temperature, or you don’t have a thermometer, they can come and measure it for you, for a price of course.

  7. Some radiator valves do not go full 28c. But usually the incorrect thermostat does not want to screw in place.

  8. Your thermostats are turned to the max.

All the hot water flow there is to be had is flowing thru your radiators. Don’t worry about what the markings on the plastic cover say.

  9. What is the room temperature in your apartment? If it is around 21 then you need live with it. Or if you want to have higher temperatures you need to buy additional electric heaters and also pay to the consumed electricity.
