War with ruSSia is coming. They are preparing for a invasion of the Baltics and Poland and we must be able to defend ourself without our American allie and friend.

I hope for the safety of everyone that the EU has enough strength by the time Russia plans to come. So Russia don’t go ahead.
Yes, they should. But it’s rich coming from a German politician like Manfred Weber when Germany doesn’t even spend 2% of their GDP on their military as expected of NATO members. It just sounds like another EPP pipe dream of an EU army which isn’t something feasible in the near future as Manfred Weber suggests.
Practice what you preach and put more pressure on your country to actually pull their weight in NATO instead of trying to discredit it in the name of “European autonomy.”

Hope for peace. Prepare for war. If we do not prepare enough I suspect the chances for a small crisis with Russia are 100%. A revolt of ethnic Russians in the Baltics. A so called independent Russian militia taking over a small island in the Baltic Sea. There are hundreds of small islands there: Odensholm/Gotska/Utö/…. Easy enough to take one and turn it in a media circus.
Implying there’s a war that the US wouldn’t love to be a part of.
I don’t want to spend anymore on defense than we already do. And I’m tired of the constant propaganda telling us that we should.

This is the only solution. A full European armed force with its own strategic enablers that makes it able to act independently if needed.
My stance remains the same – war is caused by the rich and those who rule, because it’s fought for property and territory. Since most of assets here in Czech were “privatized” in 1989 (read sold for pennies by traitors to the western ruling elites), I encourage the owners of factories and other assets on our territory to hire mercenaries to defend them. I would not lift a finger to fight for the western crooks, to kill helpless nobodies sent to war by the eastern crooks.
In other words, I completely reject the concept of “we” based on nationality or some political allegiance.
Thing is the only reason this is controversial in America is because Europeans don’t want to pay for their own defence.
If all NATO states had upheld the 2% minimum for the last two decades the alliance would be under much less strain.
That’s absolutely right. Long peace in Europe has made us neglect our defence. We have ran down our capability to produce weapons and ammo like war could never happen in Europe any more. The bad news is that Russia is already in war economy producing ammo and military equipment like hell and we can not even get started.
Europe should also be ready for war _with_ America.

All this war talk will guarantee an enormous far right victory in the upcoming eu elections. The result of this election will be a shock. Far right will outperform the already good polls by a large margin you can count on that.
People dont like the prospect of war. Over the past few years the media have hammered the connection “far right=pro Russia”. So now everyone will vote far right in the hope to avoid war and instead make some deal.
And just to be clear:its not only because of this war talk there is also the immigrant thing. This war talk just adds to it,it heavily favors the far right.

The downvotes wont change what is going to happen. Its to obvious just wait and see. The elections will be a political earthquake and the ppp wont be the largest fraction.
And the UK. We’re outside of the EU, but our defence should be integrated
I don’t believe US will really step out.
They thought they were done with Russia by contributing to dismantle URSS. They’ve realized they were wrong.
And there’s also the Taiwan case. And the Russian/Chinese influence growing in Africa.
It’s not as if they’ve still costly operations going on in Middle East. Apart what happens in Gaza but whatever they’ll do it will end badly, they’ll intervene only if it’s beneficial for their energy agenda and needs.
If they really step out now, they’ll give legitimacy to their opponents propaganda. Something they can’t really allow. My guess is they’ll maintain a close watch, undercover operations (infiltration, sabotages, destabilization through fake intel…) and some dissuasive manœuvres.
There have been many of these statements in the last couple of weeks, but this one has something new…
