Possibly because the United States has become a complete energy curmudgeon and shakes in its boots when anything oil or oilish related, such as natural gas, is mentioned and, from the article it appears, that turkey is also raising a fuss due to where the cable will be laid. As the article state (and how the world has always turned) the following phrase from that article seems appropriate: “As we approached 2020, the project became more political than energy. Now it is completely political…”.
Have a nice day 😀!
It’s a bit bizarre US is intervening in this. And the EU aren’t kicking up a fuss. There must be something else going on. US would be apoplectic if any nation intervened in their energy policies. Perhaps it’s fear of Iranian sabotage or there is some other factor.
I can’t imagine the EU are so spineless to not go ahead with a pipeline just because the US isn’t keen on it. Before someone says it NS2 is different. There is far less risk with a deal with Israel and Cyprus.
I mean isn’t it replacing a pipeline for an interconnector? So you’d have an electricity cable run the route rather than a pipeline in addition to push for expansion of the egyptian greek interconnector.
