  8. it’s pretty clear that plane was filled with missiles from Iran and either Ukraine shot it down, or russian AA in their infinite wisdom accidentally shot it down. Big loss for russia.

    Now russia knows they either can’t sweep this one under the rug, or, they seen it as a perfect opportunity to try score points against ukraine in western media by making up a story about PoW being on the plane. The evidence proving this wrong won’t matter, russians will believe the lies, westerners who love russia will believe the lies and that will be it.

  13. Not surprising. It was on a long distance trajectory into Russia when it went down and isn’t primarily a passenger transport.

  17. Haha, the POW-in-plane-story was most likely a bluff by the Russians, so that they can safely transport weapons. Ukrainians didn’t buy the story. Russians always lie. The only weird thing is that the UN jumps when Lavrov calls for a security council meeting.

  22. I would ask why they are bothering to lie, it seems to not be full of pows which would be obvious pretty soon after the wreckage was examined. But then I realized it’s Russia, and lying seems to be compulsive for their government.

  25. If there were prisoners on board, they’d make a show of bodybags so they look like the humanitarian side, and Ukraine would be the bad guys shooting down a plane full of ukranians. By not having that many bodies, it looks more like a military supply drop, and the Russians don’t want to lose face having a plane shot down over their own country, so they’re using it as a PR event, and will stall the body release for as long as it takes to ship a pile of bodies to the site.

  26. There is widespread consensus now based on all the information available that:

    * there likely were no pow’s on this flight
    * this is a planned disinformation operation – the detailed information that Russia started putting out literally was within 15-20 minutes of the crash. 15 minutes! First responders would still be converging on the crash site in that timeframe
    * normal course is to notify the other side of a plane carrying POWs a day in advance. The latest tidbit that they advised Ukraine 15 min beforehand is not credible and likely indicates they forgot about that part of the disinformation blitz. There is no way in 15 minutes the information can be disseminated down the chain to local forces in combat.
    * the video evidence is not supportive of the claims of prisoners, guards, etc on the flight. Every crash video with many passengers shows bodies strewn about all over the place. In this one? Just the bare crew.
    * Many other pieces also do not fit the profile.

    If you believe the hokum ruzzia is trying to push on this “story” I have a bridge in Brooklyn available for sale at a very inexpensive price: lots of traffic and endless tolls to enrich you. Give me a call!
