Sounds like an entirely predictable outcome. Well done brexit!
I think it would be prudent just not to holiday in the EU until things calm down at the border. I’m not going to waste a day of my life just to take my bicycle to France for a holiday and to spend money there. I’ll go further afield instead – Turkey maybe.
Why do we need fingerprints? Does everyone who enters Europe need fingerprints on top of their passport?
That’s how EU treats everyone that isn’t part of its clique.
So?
> Parliament’s European Scrutiny Committee heard that the Port of Dover and the surrounding area could be hit by major disruption when the EU Entry-Exit System launches unless measures are introduced to prevent delays.
I have a solution. We rejoin the EU
Okay?
So I won’t go to Europe then. Problem solved.
Queues aren’t that long flying internationally to Europe, so why would Brexit cause this?
Divorcing a political union means 14 hour plane queues?
Why?
USA doesn’t have political union with Europe. Their queues are 20 mins max average.
This just sounds like “hahaha, because we can” behaviour to me, from our supposed “friends”.
Brexit has been a farce.
Politicians should face criminal charges.
Good thing there’s a whole world of other destinations if you wanted to avoid this obviously made up 14 hour queue
Fingers crossed the EU can improve their shoddy border infrastructure so we don’t see these 14 hour queues. It’s both laughable and worrying that one of the biggest economies in Europe, France, can’t handle border checks in a timely and efficient manner.
Here is this could word again, i.e. it’s not going to happen but we need a headline to make people worry
So let me get this straight, the EU and other European countries see no issue with boats full of people completely undocumented rocking up in their countries but they want to fingerprint and scan every tourist entering the country? Wtf is going on in the west man
Then tourism will die in those countries and people will go elsewhere. Although how many tourists travel via port of dover anyway???
It’s a question of volume going through the port and available infrastructure. Europe is going in to a US style immigration system and the UK like Americans and everyone else need to be processed into the EU.
Lol 14 hours???? Ive never even spent 2 hours going through american borders lol anyone who buys this as a result of Brexit is a chump
I’m sure those benefits are *just* around the corner.
That’s alright just arrive in a rubber dinghy and you’ll get a free hotel and a blank cheque.
Why would anyone want to enter Europe when we have all these sunlit uplands right here?
When it comes to Brexit and anything from the Tories i prefer the american understanding of the word ‘scheme’. More fitting. It is the people who get screwed in the end
Could fingerprint readers like we have on our phones not be set up near the automatic passport scanners and facial recognition cameras, automating the entire process?
Well Sadiq Khan was calling it a travel ban last week, so I suppose 14-hour queues to enter are progress on that.
“We all knew what we were voting for”, Sir John Redwood MP for Wokingham and champion of Brexit.
I am sure this will have no knock effects to the British tourism industry….
If the EU wants to make itself less competitive for tourism that’s its choice. Personally if it becomes too much of a ball ache to visit then I will go other places.
I see this in Heathrow all the time. Not entirely sure if it’s Brexit or staff shortage.
But massive number of non EU visitors, mainly Chinese and Indians queuing up for so long.
It really leaves a bad impression of our country. First touch point should always be smooth and quick, would help boost further tourism here.
It’s sad to see that a negative experience is the first thing many visitors have
No chance, UK tourism generates lots of income for EU countries especially France and Spain. FYI I am against Brexit and hope we rejoin the EU, so I don’t have to live my last years on this rain sodden island.
Why don’t we just join shengen? Our current visa policy is more relaxed than that scheme anyway.
Absolute bollocks. It could also take 30 minutes or 2 days.
Is no one talking about the uks equivalent scheme of the ETA? This isn’t going to just be one side implementing one, it’s also all modelled off the usas esta.
Not going to happen.
14 hour queues would destroy tourism from the UK.
It won’t be 14 hours, absolutely jog on 😂.
Sensationalist reporting once again.
It’s always the fucking French, if only they monitored their other borders so effectively
It’s a great day for face-eating leopards everywhere
Don’t think it will take 14h it never has anywhere else
