  1. This Brexit thing really is great. Love paying more for everything

  2. In an ideal world we could pass the additional cost only to the dickheads that voted for this crap.

  3. I, for one, am enjoying my extra sovereignty so much!

  4. If only half the population could have foreseen this happening!

  5. This is obviously not good, but on the other hand, the Boomers got their blue passports back, and at the end of the day, isn’t that what really matters?

  6. Yes but we “took back control” and my blue passport looks fucking awesome

    /s

  7. Did you read the other day we now have WORSE trading conditions with Canada then we did as part of the EU?

    Brexit is SO, SO SHITE.

  8. Ah good, I was concerned about how cheap they were when I came back for a visit in December…

  9. Again? atleast if we are going to pay so much I expect that the vegetables are high quality and that they will not get moldy in two weeks atleast.

  10. Brexiteers don’t even eat fruit and veg. Just beef, lager, and cocaine.

  11. What a strange coincidence that this will happen around the same time as the ban on fruit and veg packaging. I am all for that ban but people need to understand they will no longer be able to fob you off with the shit produce in the prepacked bags so the price will shoot up. These new Brexit controls are going to fuck things up as well but what about UK produced fruit and veg? Who is going to hold them to account when they go up in price?

  12. Perfect market to import loads of drug filled disgusting carcinogenic dross from the USA.

Almost as if that was the plan.

  13. I have noticed that there has been a steady increase in the price of vegetable seeds too. More Brexit benefits.

  14. > I don’t care. I don’t eat vegetables

    Average brexiter probably

  15. And what will we do?

    Moan.

    Will we do anything else?

    Probably not!

  16. Let’s not forget the Rees-Moggs of this Country who made millions and stand to make more millions out of Brexit.
These people re the real criminals of U.K.

  17. Sure glad we took back control of our borders though. /s

This country has long been reliant on food imports to feed us. Way back into the second world war when the Atlantic Conveys helped to keep this country fed, clothed and armed. So how does adding barriers to trade help food prices be lower, or farmers to reduce their costs?

Farmers have struggled to hire workers to sit outside from early morning to midday to pick fruit and veg, even on higher wages. Allotments are dwindling, and people’s backyards are shrinking in size, or just being paved or carpeted over with artificial grass so they’re not growing some of their own stuff (even though things like tomato plants tend to be easy to grow)

Or i suppose we could just do what Terese Coffey says and just subside on swedes all year.

  18. The worst part of this, is, even if you remove the brexit and go back to belong to EU, prices wont change, same happened 2 or 3 years ago when everyone went crazy because petrol stations did not have “enough” petrol and the queues were huge, prices went up and never down, afterwards the excuse of war…

And supermarkets keep testing people to see how much they are willing to pay, the sainsburys next to me, love to do that, today you have for example a bowl of veggies 2£ tomorrow it’s 2.5£ for few days, and then goes back to 2£ maybe next week they rise it to 2.85£ for another few days, just testing the waters if still selling then that will be the new price.

Like the mince beef meat, used to be 5% fat, a year ago they changed to low fat, if you check the composition actually is 10% but doing that, they get more money for less meat..

  19. I don’t know why brexit voters cited sovereignty as part of their reasons to leave. I’m really not sure what they thought they were getting out of it?

  20. This is the reason they have taken so long to implement these. They know full well that its going to cause problems and price increases. Even though “taking back control of our borders” was the whole damned point of Brexit.

Supermarkets are already stocked with fewer products, and significantly less fresh products. Be prepared for it to get markedly worse.

  21. I love Brexiters telling me we’re doing just fine. THAT’S BECAUSE IT HASN’T EVEN FULLY TAKEN EFFECT YOU PILLOCKS.

  22. Cos they didn’t go up enough last two years did they!!

  23. Will happen after election, to blame Labour. Tory scum trick.

  24. It’s a cunning way to deter immigrants. It must be

  25. Noticed this week that deodorant has gone up again. I was paying1.50 for my usual. It’s now priced at 2.75 and that’s the cheapest I’ve found it. Most places charging £4 for it. Fucking bonkers

  26. Confused when surely peas, carrots and potatoes and broccoli are all grown in the UK? Am I missing something?

  27. And this is only _phase 1_. Be sure to thank your local Brexiteer.

  28. It will never not make my piss boil whenever I read stuff like this. I’m still trying to understand the benefit to what happened but…

  29. The quality of vegetables has already dropped off a cliff. I am assuming this is because the supermarkets are having to lower their standards to avoid pushing the prices even higher.

When they say shelf life will be affected, what they actually mean is quality will drop even more.

  30. I’m loving these sunlit uplands. They are so reassuringly expensive.

I’ll be back with more sarcasm later, I have to go and arrange a mortgage on some carrots.

  31. Just think about it: 17,410,742 voted to leave the EU and 16,141,241 voted remain. That is a difference of only 1,269,501 votes. Hardly a landslide – yet the country got a Government that negotiated the hardest Brexit possible at the time. Just think, again: in the 2019 General Election the Tories won an 80 seat majority – the difference from a hung Parliament was approx 300,000 votes. Again we see a Government without reproach to the people yet acts for a minority.
