  1. At the next election, ask yourself this, has your life improved over the last 14/15 years however long these ones have been in charge.

  2. > The mother “wasn’t aware of the emergency dental care provided locally at Whitegate Drive and took several of her child’s teeth out as a result.,” he said, adding it was “an absolutely harrowing and heartbreaking case”.

This could have been simply avoided if someone had explained to her what emergency services were available. Hope the kid is OK.

  3. We had string and a door handle.

No, this isn’t sarcasm, this is real, In the 70’s and 80’s we tied string/thread around our tooth, then looped over the door handle and it was slammed shut.

  4. This could have been avoided way ahead of getting the pliers out of the toolbox.

Dentist I know had a 5 year old who always went to sleep with a juice drink rather than water. Her teeth were rotten and alot needed extracting. The parent didn’t seem to care as ‘they’re just baby teef innit’. Dentist explained that the end-of-life baby teeth encourage adult teeth to grow, so this child will have issues later down the line.

  5. >Blackpool South’s Conservative MP, Scott Benton, told the Commons it was “sadly impossible” for new patients to find a health service dentist.

Wonder if this Tory MP was able to say this empty statement with a straight face? Hardly “sad” when these stories are the result of privatising dentistry in all but name. He and his party have purposefully inflicted this situation on the population.

  6. I used a pair of pliers on a wobbly tooth. She was a bit worried and then ever so glad. It only took a moment. The pointed type.

  7. I wonder if the fact that these stories are being reported on more leads to more copycat cases. As if people hear about others doing it and feel that they should join them when NHS dentists are as rare as hen’s teeth.

  8. Why is the article written as if the mother bears no responsibility for the fact that her child has rotten teeth and that she chose literally the worst option to deal with it?

She didn’t “have to” rip her child’s teeth out with pliers. She could have taken her to A&E. Saying she didn’t know that is a ridiculous cop out. Are we really so hopeless that grown adults are not expected to problem solve and are excused for abhorrent behavior just because no one held their hand and told them exactly what to do?

What she did was child abuse, plain and simple.

Yes, the state of the NHS dental service is abysmal, but that’s no excuse for what this woman did.
