The reason weed etc is illegal was to provide cops in the US an ability to arrest people they didn’t like, like blacks, hippies, counterculture types etc.
It was designed to give cops latitude. If a black jazz player was irritatingly obeying the law, and you need to give that uppity negro a lesson, here’s your opportunity.
Leo came out and said as much, drugs law in Ireland is about giving police the opportunity to grab people who they don’t like *for some other reason*.
I’m not saying that Irish guards abuse this as much as US cops did. (They did not.) But it’s interesting that Leo openly reiterated the reason why these laws were introduced in the first place.
Ireland is unfortunately a backwater shithole in terms of its policy on cannabis
Health led approach…
>There will be no conviction
He has been given an adult caution previously, and isn’t getting a conviction this time.
It really doesn’t matter what a politician says, or what an activists says, it’s illegal to possess.
So if he is to end up a conviction, it will be at least his 3rd time getting caught.
The gall of telling a grown adult what they can and cannot put in their own body, while harming no one else.
> ‘There will be no conviction but you must sign up with the court to keep the peace and smoke no weed for two years,’ he said.
Doesn’t this seem kinda weird in todays day and age
How much resources are we wasting over things like this and then saying we don’t have the resources to deal with violent criminals
Ridiculous
Honest question, how much is €5 worth in real terms? Like is it a joints worth?
Pints are about €6 average and I wouldn’t need to the bathroom as much. Seems like a win-win…
