All nations will now seek to procure nuclear weapons, for better or for worse.
Both Russia and the US gave security guarantees in the Budapest Memorandum in exchange for Ukrainian nuclear disarment.
While the US and the west has done a lot to help Ukraine, if we don’t do enough it shows that all agreements and assurances are just word.
Russia ignored the agreement several times and the US has failed to provide the security promised. Showing that the only thing that prevents conquest is nuclear weapons and little else.
Well it is a good thing that US isn’t making the war plans for Ukraine.
> But those plans do not anticipate significant gains by Ukraine against Russia in 2024
This is key context that should be in the headline. Spending 2024 rearming and retooling is likely the best strategy.
Don’t see how they could anyway. They occupy around 20% of Ukraine, I don’t see it going down majorly anytime soon.
Lost territories also mean the lives of hundreds of thousands of people who found themselves under occupation. This is madness.
Well duh. Ukraine isn’t get those back. It’s Korea 2.0
The west’s plan for ukraine was never to help them win outright, it is to keep them in the fight long enough that by the time they fall or a ceasefire happens, russia is so degraded that they are irrelevant. All without a single NATO soldier dying.
That, and to use it as a real life proving ground for equipment that was designed to kill Russians but never got to
They don’t have to re-take the territory. They just have to make it untenable to occupy. Sever the bridge, cut off the re-supply effort and wait. The Russians walked 40 miles to get food after they abandoned their convoy in the opening days of the invasion.
Considering that Biden when he could slow walked any weapons to Ukraine, and now with the mess that is going on in Congress, I’m not surprised.
Half measures bring poor results. US fell short and EU support is not enough. Talking big and then embarrass yourself like that. Unfortunately for Ukraine, this means the territories are gone. They already had small chances and majority of people there are with Russia not against them. Taking them back would be a civil unrest headache at the very least.
Welcome to being a proxy, the first step is getting fucked, the second step is also getting fucked.
One obvious effect of losing the Easternmost regions to Russia is that it would end most support for any pro-Russian political initiative. The remaining Ukraine, after the war has ended, will be more united under a clear national identity.
Incredibly sad to realize Russia has won this war no matter what president is in charge. Letting Russia mine during the winter and not giving Ukraine f16s was a massive mistake
Personaly I don’t think USA has any street cred anymore when it comes to wining wars…
Ukraine will with the help of true allies like UK, Germany, Poland, France etc continue to destroy Russia’s oil refineries, then its terminals, then its pipelines. Without those its a dead duck. No need for taking the trenches, hold them and wait for Russia to collapse financially as it did in the last Crimean war.
The collective West (including the Europeans) failed Ukraine. There is no other way to put it.
Russian here.
I feel bad for Ukraine, but sadly, this is pretty expected – the Western plans regarding Ukraine have been even more vague than even the goals of the Russian invasion.
“You Ukrainians fight for our freedom and democracy, we applaud guys! Ehm, no, we won’t supply you our best weapons, and we’ll keep cutting the funding, and will ban you from striking targets inside Russia, and regarding EU/NATO ascension – definitely, come back in 10 years and we’ll talk about it. Oh, and we’ll also keep trading with Russia, just more discreetly. But definitely great job you guys are doing there!”
Russia on the other hand learned from its humiliating 3-day invasion, ramped up its military production, and secured supplies from Iran and North Korea.
Warplans? US?
They could’ve negotiated in 2022 with much more leverage if they did not sabotage talks. Way to go USA!
Yeah, we fucked them over hard with our slow mobilization of support. They could have done it. Instead we watched Russia dig in. I’m fucking pissed.
U.S. war plans with russia in 2027 don’t lose German and France territory.
Bullshit headline
I love it when we go full Neville Chamberlain. It always works out so well for everyone.
… duh? Ukraine is losing territory currently. Holding their ground would be the first step. Russia may only be taking tiny gains daily, but it sort of adds up after time.
Thanks to the Republican part, which is currently chaired by Vladimir Putin. They are traitors to this nation.
People really think you can Just retake territory in a Split second
This isnt gaming where you fast Forward time, only way Ukraine would be able to Take Back territory in record time is If EU/US would Join the Fight.
Europe is so damn weak. Putin knows it too and that’s why he’s attacking now.
Europe: Why won’t America do more for us?
Announcing your military plans, including the fact that you will not attack your opponent is pretty bold military strategy. Let’s see if it pays off for them.
