Green sector delivered more electricity than Scotland used for first time.

Renewable technologies generated the equivalent of 113% of Scotland’s overall electricity consumption in 2022, new statistics show.

This is the highest recorded to date, and a 26 percentage point increase compared to 2021.

  1. There’s going to be a huge first mover advantage for places that switch to renewables- surpluses that come from the need to overbuild renewables will get sold to neighboring markets through available transmission, meaning they can “double dip” on the financial benefits of low cost generation *and* getting to sell. Places that wait to install generation will still benefit from the relatively low cost of new generation infrastructure, but won’t get that same “surplus sales” bump.
