  15. The indigenous people in Alaska and northern parts of Canada did indeed cross over the bearing strait 10k years ago. However, these aren’t Russians, they were the indigenous in territory now considered Russia.

  20. I don’t believe anyone should place any hopes on this guy. The very fact that he’s being allowed to stand shows that the Putin regime does not consider him any sort of threat. He may sometimes say things that are rational and even moral and humane, but he’s only on the ballot so Putin can say that the election is real. That’s a classic move in the totalitarian ruler’s playbook.

    I think the absolute best we can hope for is that enough Russians are brave or foolhardy enough to vote for this guy that when the siloviki see the **real** results of the election (as opposed to the published results), they realise that there must be major changes at the top of the regime and a shift in the direction Russia is going.

    That it happened over 20,000 years ago when Russia didn’t even exist, that Russia didn’t even conquer Siberia until 500 years ago and that the people that were conquered had no connection to their conqueror’s from the West doesn’t seem to matter….

Given the fanatical obsession many russian academics (ex, Alexander Dugin), russian govt officials, bloggers, state media personalities (ex., Soloviev, scabayeva) have for ethnicity, language, bloodlines and ‘racial purity’ this latest claim, however bizarre, is not at all surprising. How “Goebbels” of Nadezhdin to make this claim. Was actually wondering when this fantastic claim would be made as well as assertions that the pyramids of Egypt were, actually, built by russians. Next we’ll have claims of putin being a direct descendant of Montezuma.
