As more tankers divert from Suez Canal, there’s a ‘sea change’ in way Europe is buying crude

  1. Yet no E.U. country has participated in the U.S./U.K. strikes against the Houthis. Not even in just a symbolic way to show solidarity with their Western allies. Despite how many words they’ve spoken about the importance of this alliance.

Not even France, which has a more powerful military than the U.K.

  2. >Before the Red Sea disruptions, a tanker from Jamnagar, India to Rotterdam, Netherlands **would have taken 24 days**. Sailing through the Cape of Good Hope, the duration of the same voyage **has risen to 42 days**. *(+ 18 days)*
    >From Basrah, Iraq, to Milazzo, Sicily, a voyage **that would have taken 17 days will now take 42 days.** *(+ 25 days)*

Somebody is trying to rip you off, [a longer route adding 10-14 days of travel.](https://www.reuters.com/business/ships-rerouted-by-red-sea-crisis-face-overwhelmed-african-ports-2023-12-22/)

Off course, for LNG at least the [demand is dropping](https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/eu-natural-gas), meaning the regassification plants are still filled at capacity, and it’s a lot cheaper to slow down the tanker for a very late arrival than spending a fortune occupying a berth without a chance to unload their cargo.

  3. So ships now have to go to south Africa.. Iran’s new bestie..Hmm..

  4. It’s not that, but how is this possible? Yemen, a country shattered into pieces, weakened by famine, cholera and other diseases, only supported by forever-sanctioned Iran, heavily bombed by the most modern arms Americans sold to Saudi for hundreds of billions of dollars, can do this?

  5. “European countries are seen as complicit in the Israel-Hamas war. They would rather go around the Cape of Good Hope versus taking a chance through the Red Sea.”

What is the connection between these two sentences? How are Europeans complicit in this war? And for Iran, no complicity? The Israelis dream of expelling all the Palestinians from Gaza, what are the Arab countries doing? Nobody wants them at home, this is what the wall built by the Egyptians on the border with Gaza looks like. Even Donald and Kim are jealous : December 2020, the 6 meter high barrier is made of reinforced concrete and passes 5 meters underground. It consists of a second barrier parallel to the old rock barrier built in early 2008 on the border with the Gaza Strip, separated by a distance of no more than 10 meters. The barrier is designed to block the entry of Gaza Strip gunmen into the Sinai and close remaining Palestinian cross-border tunnels.
