  1. I keep seeing this meme in last couple of days and like… You know neutral gender exist in Polish and can say “niebinarne”, also?

  2. I get this is a joke. Niebinarne should be the right form.

  3. Ale dzieląc ludzi na binarnych i niebinarnych tworzymy system binarny

  4. Mam pomysl. Obetnijmy koncowke i mowmy- Niebinar. Mam nadzieje ze nikogo nie obrazilem. Jesli tak to z gory przepraszam. Chcialem dobrze.

  5. The beauty of the only valid language in the world. Long live Poland!

  6. I think Polish people in general are strongly opposed to natural changes in grammar and accepting new words or new meanings. That’s why not many native words make it into the actual lexicon and Polish has almost only borrowings when it comes to new technologies, like “komputer”, “smartfon” etc.

I suppose it might be connected to how, for the last 100+ years, children in schools were taught only one, central dialect of Polish, and none other, as the “right” language, the only Polish language there is, and everything that was not in the dictionary at the time was just slang, wrong grammar, bad education… Ignoring completely that languages evolve and change over time.

“Niebinarne” as a word for people is not in the dictionary *right now*, but it might very well become one in the future. It feels weird to people who were taught those strict grammar rules when they were children, and they will reject it and oppose it. But this approach gives me the same vibe as when about 5-7 years ago everyone over the age of 50 would relentlessly complain about the young people being glued to their phones, but now the same people are even more online than the young ones.

I’d say… give it time. The matter is still very fresh in the eyes of the public, things are still settling over it, there isn’t much consensus among nonbinary people themselves on how the Polish words are supposed to reflect their identity. They’ll get to it eventually, and we’ll have beautiful new ways to communicate 🙂

  7. I believe that actually it should be said as “nonbinary person”, which in this case would sound as “osoba niebinarna”.

  8. In binary it’s

    Male
    11010011010000000001011000

    Female
    10011100011010101
