Of course, I am not endorsing the grants that were given, or commenting on public funding being given for a religious institution — I am only pointing out the disinformation and unverified claims that are so highly upvoted. The grant funding had nothing to do with Yousaf.

  1. The grant was (rightly or wrongly) given to that mosque to upgrade the building to be more energy efficient, of which they replaced/redid walls, windows, doors, floor and ceilings. And promote this in the community.

    The funding was provided after a grant application to the charity Keep Scotland Beautiful. They checked through the application and ultimately decided to grant it – Yousaf had nothing to do with the decision.

    If people feel that a religious institution should not get public funding, that is completely fair, and I agree — but that is not what my post is about. I am addressing and correcting the misinformation that has been so highly upvoted regarding the context of the grant.

  3. This subreddit is being manipulated by hostile outsiders aiming to stoke division and push right wing propaganda. It’s been going on for months. The entire character of the sub has changed, it’s unrecognisable. I despair reading here now.
