This can only be a good thing, and I vape disposables out of pure convenience. This will most likely have me stop all together or go back to my refillable but more than likely stop.
Good. Too many of my age are gonna have detrimental health conditions thanks to these
A lot of people see vapes as a better alternative to smoking and won’t smoke, so this will help a lot
My partner spends an absurd amount of money on these. Ban can’t come quicker
Too late, I suspect. Kids are nicotine-addicted, and now they’ll be buying black market vapes. I’m not opposed to a ban, by the way, but these products should never have reached the market.
Strong approval from me here but really just from the environmental aspect. I’m not a vape user, I don’t have a fundamental issue with vaping, but disposable vapes are terrible.
The majority of disposable vapes contain the parts that would allow the creation of a reusable vape pen. They contain a smaller battery, but usually a lithium-ion one that could technically be recharged (but often the circuitry to do that is missing), and a heating element and electronic components, plus the plastic components for the casing. Yet they may only do a few days to a week of use before they are exhausted and thrown in the bin.
Despite manufacturers or retailers claiming that they recycle vapes returned to them, the reality is their definition of recycling usually consists of crushing the parts down and extracting the few valuable raw materials and landfilling the rest. All of that embedded energy that went into making the part is lost for good and for the sake of a tiny bit of convenience in not having to refill and recharge a reusable pen.
And in my experience at least, many end up littered on the streets. It’s just a product that should have never been invented.
Thank fuck. When I smell cinnamon donuts, I want cinnamon dounuts, not some prick in a tracksuit who thinks he is some kind of special.
Should also ban all flavours too bar maybe mint or something
It was obvious having bubblegum etc would be targeted at kids
How about banning the sale of knives first?something that actually kills kids.
…for the children? Not the environment, that’s certainly curious. I imagine they’re going to try and get all vapes banned next using this line of thought, that’s why they’d frame it like this. But why?
Anybody know any tobacco companies linked with MPs?
It’s scandalous that disposable vapes were ever a thing that was allowed to happen. Ignoring the fact they’re clearly aimed for children, they waste precious lithium.
They should never have been allowed based on the environmental impact.
They don’t have to pretend it’s for the children yknow. They could just say they’re doing it cause it’s overall just a good idea
The amount of lithium batteries I see on the streets is really concerning, also people just put them in their green bin which is an environmental and safety disaster.
About time, but stinks of desperation from a government that’s only now cracking down on it to win favour with the electorate before they are eradicatd at the polls. The ban on disposable (non-disposable) vapes should have happened years ago before any major damage was done and the addiction snuck in, particularly with children.
On the addiction side they made it accessible rather than manageable. Convenient rather than necessary. Vaping shouldn’t be replacing one bad habit (smoking) with another, and at the start it didn’t, but disposables anecdotally became a replacement rather than a fix making it easy to get hooked again.
I’m an adult and enjoy these daily used them to quit smoking
The menthol cigarette ban was an absolute joke
But I have to say I agree with the government on this one smart move. For once they speak truth.
Dumb reason but they should be banned we’re gonna need that lithium
“The latest changes would also introduce powers to stop refillable vapes being sold in a flavour marketed at children” what does that actually mean in practice?
Thank you Lord ! We had almost got rid of smoking as a nation, not even one of my friends from school were smockers, maybe occasionally on holiday whilst talking to birds😂 then all of a sudden In the last 5 years everybody was vaping ffs!
You can’t have plastic straws unless they come with a battery and oils, made perfect sense from the get go 🥴
But whats gonna happen if people have a stockpile of it? Will they be arrested if they use it after a year or six months (retailers have 6 months to implement the ban apparently)
Ironic question but before this gets banned someone please tell me if i try just one will i be addicted or not or it depends? I want to try one.
About time, absolute disaster for health and the environment especially for school children.
I pity any adult I see walking around with a little plastic dick in their mouths sucking on it like their entire well being depends on ot. Inhaling strawberry flavoured shite produced in a factory in China, by underpaid slave labour, powered by slave driven mining of cobalt.
Take a page out of Japans book and ban it completely in public.
Vape user here, trying to quit smoking. I totally support a ban on disposables, but not because of “the children” – ~~try parenting if you are so concerned~~. More for environmental reasons and lesser because, in my view, vapes should be seen as smoking cessation aid and nothing more.

IMHO, vapes should be prescribed by doctor to people trying to quit smoking. Not sold in every petrol station, newsagent and grocery shop in the country as just another product.

Edit: Crossed out the needless blaming of parents as it was pointed out by another user that it was unfair. Upon reflection, they are correct and I shouldn’t have said that. Leaving it there (but crossed out) as an example to other Redditors to own your mistakes and admit to them. Don’t just delete things when you are wrong. Own it.
Finally!
Took them long enough.
This is good, they are easily accessible and many kids are always using them.
There is also the waste aspect.
The sooner kids are back on the 3L industrial cider in the park, the better.
Have absolutely no way of disproving the figure cited in the article but anecdotally it feels like a lot more than 7.6% of 11-17 years old vape regularly. The sooner they get banned, the better.
Honestly this only be a good thing (Provided the Tories don’t mess it up) The shear number of disposable vapes I see littering the pavements is frankly horrifying, just in terms of the among of wasted materials it is.
As an adult vaper who wants to quit, it would be a lot easier if disposables weren’t available everywhere I go.
Pleasantly surprised that it’s an outright ban rather than some half hearted legislation at discouraging bright colours or flavours.
The era of disposable vapes truly is a shameful period in this country. The ban will have a huge affect and cannot come soon enough
Disposable vapes should be banned for our planet health. The amount of plastic we produce is crazy. Why use so much resources just to produce item that will last 2 days tops?
Good. My sister is a teacher at a senior school and she says around 80% of the kids in her classes have vapes. The amount of disposables she’d had to confiscate off kids, because they’re so addicted they do it in class and have no idea they’re doing it is insane.
They are so addictive it’s scary. I’ve got a group of friends I’ve known since school (over 20 years ago now). Of the 15 of them, only 2 of them smoked and have continued to smoke since school. Over the last 2 years, 11 of the remaining 15 now vape.
Finally they need to ban all flavours as well so it only appeals to people trying to quit smoking
I’ll be honest, disposable vapes have been a pathway for a huge amount of my colleagues to quit smoking. A lot of them still use them, whilst others have purchased a permanent vape. I’ve noticed a huge take-up in the past couple of years and now it’s fairly common for me the only person to be the only person in the smoking shelter to actually be smoking.
Whilst I appreciate the environmental issues, disposable vapes have helped adults around me pack in smoking – a difficult feat. I haven’t quit, but it’s also helped me reduce the amount I smoke by a significant amount. I worry that a lot of adults and kids are going to just hop back to smoking, as it requires less planning than carrying around a rechargeable, refillable vape.
Not to mention that they are shit for the environment too.
