  1. If only there was a way they could do some of the work from home somehow.

  2. Well yeah thats the whole point of having a job.. is to have money.. so you can survive… spending the majority of your money on travel or other expenses is not how you build a life for yourself.

  3. Of course anyone with enough sense to say that is not a livable wage get labelled as not wanting to work by the UK government.

I recall this from the 80s. Of course nowadays you’ll be starved of benefits…

  4. Difference 30 years make, 90s I remember job hunting and my adviser throwing jobs into the bin infront of me because the pay was shit for the travel needed and I’d be broke if I took them. Vs now “don’t care if you’ll be worse off take the fucking job or lose your benefits”

Expectations and understanding of reality has changed a ton

  5. I live in Scotland where there aren’t any jobs because the tax is so high it’s cheaper for companies to base themselves down in England and I’m terrified that the day will come that I’ll lose my benefit because I’m not applying for jobs despite them being a waste of time since they all require experience it’s impossible to find an entry level job and I refuse to be cannon fodder for some rich wanker by joining the military

  6. Thanks Rishi, we now have youth unemployment on top of a cost of living crisis and fears of WW3, all over a bit of birthday cake.

  7. This isn’t just the unemployed. People turn down better paying jobs because the cost of trains all the time.

  8. Ye after all my bills I would be in the negative so that’s why I still live with parents at 29. I contribute to my parent and my kid that lives with my ex.

  9. Its almoat like people don’t want to be working shit wages anymore while paying half the wages on expenses just to eat and get to work 💀

  10. The problem is that salaries haven’t increased in line with the cost of living or inflection.

I am job hunting now and found that a management salary in my area (ecommerce) is exactly the same the same as it was in 2012. Junior roles underneath that are still advertised as £25-30k.

Companies need to start paying more and giving up a little bit of profit so people can actually live.

  11. Young people in UK having to refuse jobs due to low pay, you mean?
