Disposable vapes to be banned using devolved powers

  1. This will be a UK wide ban. it’s based on a consultation on a report to make a smoke-free generation that ran across all four nations. ScotGov and UK gov have backed the recommendations.

Also a UK wide change, in a bid to stem smoking, it will become illegal for anyone born after January 1 2009 to buy tobacco.

  2. Good. Vapes have avoided much of the negative association with cigarettes, and were clearly marketed towards younger people to get them hooked.

  3. I don’t know anyone that smokes vapes that would disagree with this, seems completely reasonable from an environmental point of view.

But will it really cut down on kids smoking vapes? Other than the initial purchase or a reusable vape what’s to stop them continuing with reusables?

  4. The manufacturers will just flip to cartridge based designs and sell them at the same price as disposables.

  5. I vape a lot and honestly… Good. Shit things

  6. Good I don’t care if people want to vape but it’s the lithium batteries lying around streets that I don’t like

  7. Good and I hope they go farther, those things are terrible, single handedly increased smoking rates worldwide after they had been finally failing!

  8. Same vapes which are banned for sale in china. Export only. And 10% disposed of irresponsibly is wildly under the actual figure imho

  9. This is a god awful decision. Just ban the bright colours and aspects that are marketed towards kids. Vapes save lives.

  10. Completely anecdotal but I know a couple of folk through completely different circles that both used to casually smoke (maybe 5 or fewer a day) and then started vaping and now back to smoking as said with vaping could vape constantly anywhere, not like effort of a fag so vaped all time and lungs began to hurt so now have actually went back to smoking as feels less harmful!

Obviously not saying to smoke but vaping is deffo way too accessible as it stands both in buying and where can use it.

  11. [_Technically_ a repost of this](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-68123202), but as you know how to submit a link correctly I think your should be the one that stays up!

And about time these things were banned. Deliberately marketed to children and a disaster for the environment.

We really need to move away from our “Use it & Bin it”…sorry….”Use it & Drop it at our arse” culture.

  12. Devolved powers to get shut of a health hazard…whatever next 🤔
