The man who has caught the bird flu spent many many many hours hanging around his sick birds before he caught it. That means prolonged exposure to the sick birds not a quick look in the duck pond and walking on.
I get the message coming across but we really shouldn’t start panicking (I guess) unless it spreads beyond that bloke. His family have all been in contact with him and don’t have the bird flu that’s a fact straight out of the article.
It looks like an absolute unlucky fluke right now but from the report the guy only has the mildest symptoms and isn’t in any danger of dying.
