Last year the Netherlands introduced drink can deposit scheme and within a few days all the bins were emptied onto the ground with people looking for cans. I have seen this recently and seem like a good idea stopping people emptying the bins looking for recyclables.

Think Ireland will experience the same wave of bins emptied onto the ground once the recycling deposit starts?

  1. I was just thinking the other day how we don’t have enough clutter on our streets and could do with some more.

    Plus it looks great!

  2. seen these in a few places. Canada gas them on the top side of the bin, on the rim.

Ireland doesn’t have the logistical capability to make it happen tho

  3. Maybe that would happen if the council had put in enough bins around the place

  4. do I think the bins would be emptied onto the ground here?

    What fuckin bins?

  5. Yep in Germany you just leave it on a. Random windowsill if you don’t want to recycle someone will be glad to take it

  6. What’s the point of paying for the green bin when they burn most of it and sell the energy at a profit. Why won’t the exact same thing happen to bottles deposited into these machines? You can come up with all the bins and schemes you like, it’s pointless if waste management companies aren’t held accountable.

  7. The holders on the outside of the bin are there to help homeless people, you have half a drink left instead of binning it leave it in the holder & they know it’s safe for them to drink,

  8. Yea in Australia homeless people will be seen going around collecting cans and bottles to earn some money from the refund. See it everywhere it’s actually like a job for them I bet it will happen here see them searching the bin

  9. I’m quite ignorant of the scheme. Will bottles/cans produced before the implementation date qualify for the deposit?
