  1. It looks like OP posted an AMP link. These should load faster, but AMP is controversial because of [concerns over privacy and the Open Web](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmputatorBot/comments/ehrq3z/why_did_i_build_amputatorbot). Fully cached AMP pages (like the one OP posted), are [especially problematic](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmputatorBot/comments/ehrq3z/why_did_i_build_amputatorbot).

Maybe check out **the canonical page** instead: **[https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-68127283](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-68127283)**

  2. From the article: it appears that a bus driver drove into a bus shelter. Utterly horrible.

  3. A bus just hit two people in Hammersmith the other day. What on earth? So sad for that person

  4. I was there this morning, just getting my coffee probably a minute after the accident happened. All I can hope is that it wasn’t the person laying in the middle of the road, surrounded by some people, that passed away. Really sorry to hear!

  5. So sad.

I hope this prompts a rethink of the station.

The bus shelters are far too narrow and buses zoom through far too quickly. The bays are also trapped between two lanes of bus traffic so in situations like this, there’s almost nowhere to go in the middle bays!

  6. Either the standard of bus drivers are falling or there is an issue of them being overworked, perhaps both.

  7. I am not surprised. A couple of months ago – I was trying to cross the road using zebra crossing and the light turn to green and I started walking while a bus was approaching. The driver started to stop like the last possible second and basically hit my backpack. The impact was quite low and I wasn’t hurt but the driver seem to be day dreaming. I noticed that some bus drivers think they are in “fast & furious London edition” and think the rules don’t apply to them.

  8. A few years ago I was very nearly hit by a bus as I was barged off the pavement outside of a tube station by crowds of people with no where else to go. As I stepped off the pavement into the road (to stop myself from falling over) a bus pulled in along side and literally pushed me back onto the pavement. That wouldn’t have been the drivers fault but I could have very nearly been killed. I guess what I’m trying to say here is that there are lots of reasons why these accidents can happen a they are not always the drivers at fault.

  9. I used to work in the offices above the coach station. The roads are too small to support the size of modern buses, coaches and HGVs.

On one occasion a coach came out of the arrivals area nearly hit two of us standing on the pavement opposite, before hitting a parked car, as it continued the turn.

Another time a person, within the same year, was killed by a lorry going through a set of traffic lights. Not sure whether the person had crossed without looking, or the lorry had jumped the lights, but it was pretty gruesome.
