Total BS targeted toward simple minded people.
1- Not all companies use AI or can use AI , but we see workforce reductions all across the spectrum. **Companies which has no AI capabilities are laying off their workforce.**
2- **AI is not magic**, any one who codes must have seen how openAI struggles after 2 repetitions / suggestions. I**t can not write a production ready code, yet**.. Say you managed to make it write a proper service .. if and when there is a bug in the code it would be a nightmare to debug since **a person didn’t write that thousand lines of code, he would have to sit down and learn from scratch**.
3- **If companies were investing to get advanced AI , they should have hired more engineers** not fire them since AI cannot write it’s own code .. yet.
4- Let’s say Microsoft, Meta and Google has this magic AI, why are they firing their staff ? they can just reallocate their resources to research the next big thing in tech..
5- Open Amazon AWS docs see what kinds of AI is offered as a service, It is exciting yes but not industry changing. **Assuming major companies have this magic AI** in their company , **this doesn’t explain how the rest of the finance , health , social media and retail companies are laying off their staff** since they don’t have access to it.
6- Let’s assume all these big tech companies opens up their magic AI resources , said “sure, we’ll give you this cost saving tech, so you can compete with our brands..” **who is going to implement it for them? Who is going to set it up ? who will maintain it.**
**Taking loans are harder for all** companies due to Fed increasing the rates. **Inflation and operations cost** is up.. **There are 2 wars going on,** 1 of them directly affects energy the other one started to hurt the supply lines. The uncertainty and not having to get easy low rate loans is the problem.. Not AI.
**My company** didn’t have AI , had over 4 million members. They **started laying off people in baches** right after Covid up to half of their tech work force because sales were dropping and **they wanted to show the company as profitable for the investors.** The companies return is never below zero because they are **shaving off the employees reducing costs.**
Economy may be good and I may be wrong, not really good with reading economic papers and charts but don’t insult my intelligence by saying all these various companies fired their staff because they acquired magical AI powers over night which writes code for them or all of them are in their labs investing to make their “AI” better.
