  1. I wonder if that is gonna be a new kind of trauma. For the operators, I mean.

    (Snipers usually dont see their targets realizing shit or trying to dodge. Or can switch to the feed where their targets are passing away while trying to find their leg… they are already pretty high in the “gonna get issues” ranking tho…)

    Edit: Disclaimer: Ik, “Blowing up invaders” sounds cool. I grew up with a german and an american gramps (both from WW 2). Pretty sure it ain’t (cool).

  4. This is horrific. I am sure the drone operator was just trying to coax both of them to go to the same spot but it felt like the drone was playing a macabre game with them.

  14. Is it possible to surrender by putting their hands up and dropping any weapons? If you’re surrendering, surely they wouldn’t blow you up? Maybe they just kill then anyway and we don’t see those videos? If they do and it’s boring so we don’t see them.

  19. Okay, for real….do neither one of them have a gun? Pick up a rock or stick and throw it or something? That drone was toying with them for so long they should have had plenty of opportunity to disable it. And the other guy is just sitting their not even trying….

  35. This is some dark shit. The future of warfare is quite grim.

    Drone swarms aren’t needed when you can mount a machine gun with computer-assisted aiming and recoil control on a drone and take out many targets at once, potentially not losing the drone itself. But the thought of a killer drone swarm is unnerving.

    Perhaps one day, there’ll be droneships where drones on the battlefield automatically go to when they need their batteries changed, and where drones from behind the lines install fresh batteries to supply other drones/keep the droneship hovering. Large drones helping smaller drones that help smaller drones.

    I think the odds that we ever trust AI to differentiate between different targets is quite low, but that it’ll be used to improve the accuracy of existing weapons.

  37. I’ve seen a few of these videos now, and I find them terrifying. It’s worse than a bullet – it’s like a slow-moving bullet that you can see, casually chasing you around until you give up. The fact that it often turns into some kind of twisted Benny Hill-esque game of hide and seeks makes it even more chilling. The future of warfare is grim.

  38. I’m waiting for someone to attempt to run towards it and grab it from the sides. There’s seemingly no escape anyway, your best bet is to scatter and hope it goes after one of your buddies.
