  1. Cut out Starbucks, get a second job. He’ll be financially secure very quickly

  2. The hell is he spending his money on if he can’t afford a £2k mortgage on £120k?

Take home should be around £75k (less pension contributions, student loan repayments etc).

£2k mortgage still leaves over £50k so where TF is that going?

  3. >Freeman apologised for breaking the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments’ financial conflict-of-interest rules after he took paid work from Aerosol Shield,[34] a company trying to sell PPE to the NHS during the COVID-19 pandemic.[35]

so…. his various side hustles weren’t working out so well, time to move on to some more lucrative positions his chums have doubtless lined up for him.

  4. The replies to this will be (unsurprisingly) unsympathetic. But this is a reality for so many people in this country and it’s terrifying.

  5. Looking at his wiki page he’s divorced and has two kids with his ex so probably pays a bunch of child support and he and his new wife spread their time between houses in London and Norfolk. No sympathy at all if he can’t get by on £6k/month

  6. You couldn’t said the mortgage, so quitting the job means you can??? What?

  7. >I was so exhausted, bust and depressed that I was starting to lose the irrepressible spirit of optimism, endeavour, teamwork & progress which are the fundamentals of human achievement

    Really.

The LHA rate for a 3 bedroom property in Central Norfolk and Norwich is £163.40/ week, or £708/ month.

There are 10 3 bed properties within a mile of Dereham available to rent at the moment via rightmove, the cheapest is £975 a month.

Exhausted, bust and depressed? He should ask his constituents what that is actually like.

  8. The rage that boils within because the majority of us are struggling on minimum wage whilst cocksuckers like this can’t handle their fat cash right. Not to mention corruption and other evils they perform and get away with.

Wtf are being governed and looked down upon by dickheads that can’t manage the most basic of things?

They aren’t scared of the people that pay their wage anymore and treat us like shit.

I wonder if I’ll still be around when everyone’s had enough and finally wants to do something about it.

Remember, there is a huge difference between a living, minimum and deserved wage. I still can’t figure out how or why the horrible jobs no one wants earn less than some twat sitting on his arse all day barely doing anything.

Something’s got to change and without a revolt/ rebellion.

  9. My current rent is 1500 split between two earning a combined basic of 68k. What in God’s name is this man spending money on?!

  10. How do these numbers make any sense? How could you possibly not be able to afford a £2k mortgage on £120k? Maybe he should try dialing back on whatever lavish shit he’s throwing his money at first?

  11. We can mock this guy and he may well deserve it, but this actually represents an issue that may grow

What if only the rich can afford to be MPs?

Now, on 120k today that isn’t likely, but I really don’t like the longer term implication here

  12. Not justifying the hike, but if you can’t get by on 120k a year then you’re a fuckin idiot. Too many people have absolutely zero idea about budgeting or being smart with their money. I used to work on a building site and lads would be deep in their overdrafts, but still buying 25 quid takeaways every day.

  13. Hoisted by his own petard. Maybe now he will take a good hard look at the party he stood behind and actually start to call out all the ways they’ve fucked Joe tax payer.

  14. 120k a year is 2.5k a week. How he can’t afford that is mental just needs to sort his life out by the sounds of it. Welcome to the real world bitch!!

  15. Looks like someone realised which way the wind is blowing.

  16. He can afford a £2000/m Mortgage on £120k a year salary quite comfortably.

  17. So his logic is: quit being a minister and earn (much) more than £27k a year doing other jobs while being an MP so he can afford his mortgage? £27k being how much he gets paid as a minister which isn’t enough for him. He said the tories are going to lose the next election so he’s basically saying fuck you to his constituents while taking his £92k MP salary and looking for another job which for any normal person would take a lot of time and commitment. He wants to find a job that pays more and is less stressful than being a minister. Geee, great work bob.

  18. It’s funny, mine went up from 900 to over 1500 and I’ve just got to lump it. I earn a third of his salary.

  19. Bullshit.

Even with student loan payments and 5% pension contributions, he’s still taking how £5,300/month.

A £2,000 mortgage (assuming no income from his wife also), is easily affordable – hell, I pay £1,600 rent on less income with no issues.

  20. Cool, now get a 25k job and try! Then you may finally understand how the average person feels.

  21. It’s how expensive avo toast is. I feel so terrible for him

  22. So he quit his job.. now what? Does he have another? Can we all just quit if we can’t pay our mortgages?

  23. Some people really dont understand how easy they have it. 120k a year and £2k a month mortgage. Somthing is a miss here.. your living beyond your means and you need to tighten the spending belt LIKE THE REST OF US HAD TO!!

    OUT OF TOUCH!

  24. He couldn’t afford paying 24k a year on 120k? Sounds like bad budgeting to me, needs to take some responsibility and pull his finger out!

  25. Is he actually taking the piss, my household brings in far less than he does and the mortgage is currently on a few hundred less than his.

The guy needs to grow the fuck up and deal with a situation he helped to make.

  26. No fucks given. He has a dose of his parties’ policy towards the ordinary people in this country.

  27. Dude brings home £6k a month. He’s got way bigger problems if he can’t afford a £2k mortgage.

  28. Did someone tell him to cut back on avocado toast and Netflix?

Feels like a boomer should tell him this

  29. So many jealous bitter people. Reddit always has a very ‘eat the rich’ hive mind. Demanding to know what he’s doing with the rest of his money and expecting him to have literally no hobbies/do anything that makes him or his family happy, as if they don’t have hobbies too 🙄.

With his mortgage being initially £800, I think it’s fair he’d set up his life with this in mind, with maybe room for small discrepancies. £800 to £2000 is huge and similar to me and my partners jump in mortgage. It’s not an easy pill to swallow. I actually think opting for a cheaper, £800 mortgage and spending money on your potential family/doing things you enjoy is so much more sensible and leads to a much happier life than splurging in the first place (which he could have done) on an extortionate home.

Maybe instead of being angry at other people needing to adjust their lives, be angry at the system that is affecting all of us.

  30. His 120k job couldn’t cover the extra 1200 a month (14,400 p.a.) so he’s gone back to 93. This means he can take a second job that will pay him enough to make up that difference.

I am very keen to know what he will be paid £41,400 p.a. on a part time basis, given he has a demanding job as an MP.

    Absolute joke this lot

  31. I mean that is to be appreciated. He could have stayed and looted instead.

  32. Tbh having read a couple articles it sounds like he just couldn’t put up with the pressure of the job & the mortgage increase was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Regardless of income, when you’re balancing your incomings & outgoings a 100% rise in your mortgage is going to hurt.

He’d been through a big divorce “leaving him 30 years poorer”, had 2 elderly parents to look after and felt his kids had paid a price as a result of his highly demanding job…leaving him exhausted, fat and depressed.

If you lose your motivation to do your job then why continue to do it when you could earn more money in a lower pressure environment with more time to spend with your family?

  33. Aw…bless his little cotton socks.

My family could live like royalty on that amount!
