  1. As an Irishman we just mustn’t have been concentrating enough to fill out the survey properly because I can’t see how it’s accurate.

On a real note though, could it have something to do with shorter school days at a young age? Then again France/Ireland would disprove that. Any reasoning to be seen behind this?

  2. I wonder if they have stats accounting for seasons. Personally i have noticed more “brain fog” during winters that is definitely helped when supplementing vit d3.

  3. The extremely low rate here in Hungary might be due to zero memory being the required state if mind by our government.

  4. What can we learn by this data? Why do more northern countries have a harder time remembering/focussing?

  5. Yeah, *everyone* in northern Europe really needs to be taking their vitamin D supplements and ideally getting their blood levels checked every year.

  6. Why are the differences so big? Part of it can be explained by it being somewhat subjective i guess, but can that explain this big differences? Dark winters could contribute but clearly are not the main reason.

  7. Vitamin D and darkness? How about constant use of social media?

  8. As a Swede I’m interested in why we in the Nordics are doing so much worse. I can’t remember reading anything about it before.

  9. Idk this sounds really weird from my finnish viewpoint. Site gives following explanation:

Difficulty in remembering or concentrating covers a variety of problems with cognitive functions including a person’s difficulty in finding their way around or not being able to concentrate on what they’re doing, or forgetting where they are or what month it is. A person who has cognitive difficulties may not remember what someone has just said to them or seem confused about or frightened by several things. However, difficulties remembering or concentrating because of common everyday situations such as a high workload or stress, or as a result of substance abuse are not included in the scope.

To me this sounds like some demented 90 year old. I don’t know anyone younger than 70 year olds that could fit into the criteria.

  10. Vitamin D deficiency? Depressing dark nights? Seems very geographically aligned north-south with Germany as an outlier…

  11. Another thesis to all the vitamin-d theories could be that the north is getting more culturally open towards mental disorders and human mistakes. More people than ever are getting ADHD diagnosis these days, and societies is getting more forgiving about mistakes. Therefore more people would tend to be honest in surveys like these.

    Or a combination of everything.

  12. If the UK were included it would be right near the top due to all the lying politicians.

  13. I would imagine ADHD/ADD being more commonly diagnosed being the real answer here. Its not like this wasnt a thing before its just that it was never recognized. Id imagine this is probably still not recognized as commonly in e.g. italy.

  14. That’s about right for Finland. Oh, I have to look what this post is about

  15. This is really interesting. I wonder what causes this? Some people said Vitamin D deficiency which I can believe but surely the effects wouldn’t be this drastic? And if it was really that significant I’m sure there would be other problems caused by that directly or indirectly.

Maybe I know but I just forgot.

  16. Germans forgot what the question was while answering it.
