Swedish music stars call for Israel Eurovision ban over Gaza

  1. More than 1,000 musical artists from Eurovision host country Sweden have signed an open letter calling for Israel to be excluded from this year’s edition of the song contest over its “brutal warfare in Gaza”.

Published in Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, the open letter says that by allowing Israel to participate, the Eurovision Broadcasting Union (EBU) “is exhibiting a remarkable double standard that undermines the organisation’s credibility”.

“The fact that countries that place themselves above humanitarian law are welcomed to participate in international cultural events trivialises violations of international law and makes the suffering of the victims invisible,” says the letter, published late on Monday.

  2. Nothing wrong with not wanting countries that bomb civilians to participate in a *song* contest.

  3. Look at that – among the warmongering, there are still people with conscience in the world.

  4. ”Swedish music stars”… more like Swedish music dwarf planets

  5. If it were Britain, France or any other country under investigation for genocide, we wouldn’t allow them, Israel shouldn’t get an exemption.

I’d also love to see Azerbaijan fucked out of it for their actions alongside Israel.

  6. Regardless of the war or not, what’s Israel doing in EUROvision anyhow? Either change the name of the contest or invite Brazil, Japan, Argentina, Thailand to contest too.

  7. As a Swedish person i can tell you that most of these morons cannot even locate Gaza on a freaking map and are only doing this for clout and their own profit, the fact that Azerbaijan is allowed to participate and people demanding Israel be banned shows how little you people actually care about civilians and only care for certain conflicts

  8. Palestinians: *I want to keep fighting*

Israel: *I want to keep fighting*

Random western musicians: *isn’t there someone you forgot to ask?*

  9. Haven’t Israel killed more civilians than Russia already (though it is a bit unfair to compare when so many civilians died taking up arms in defense of Ukraine)?

Still, incredible double standard for anyone backing one rogue state but not the other. Both have a littany of evidence targeting civillians and the infrastructure. Both are being tried in the ICJ for genocide. Eurovision will be alot less protesty without Israel there.

  10. While I appreciate the weekly “x calls for Israel boycott in Eurovision”, this is never gonna happen when 3 of the big 5 eurovision countries already publicly proclaimed support for Israel, and with Eurovision’s biggest sponsor, Moroccanoil, being a Israeli company. Nobody hates money that much, much less the EBU.

Right now I’m more curious about how much Israel will push their usual whitewashing during eurovision before the EBU is forced to tell them to tone it down, and the more than obvious security issues that will inevitably arise during the event.

  11. 1h old post and there are already blatantly obvious pro-israel trolls with generic usernames and zero post history outside of the conflict. Mods can you please take better care of your subreddit?

  12. Trying to boycott a country that’s trying to defend itself is morally bankrupt. It also won’t work, Israel and the Jewish people have always prevailed in the face of persecution, and they will continue doing so.

  13. Fuck those twats. Eurovision stands up for democracy, not islamo-fascist Hamas.

  14. “Virtue signalling retards cant stand not being in the centre of attention”

  15. Why these artists want to ban others? They could simply boycott by not going themselves.

  16. Did they also call for Azerbaijan to be suspended after the ethnic cleansing of Karabakh?

Or do thy not value Armenians as highly as Palestinians

  17. Good. I hope the rest of Europe joins this protest. Ban Israel!

  18. Or Eurovision could not happen at all since it has become a political tool and not an actual song contest. 🤷

  19. Not gonna happen now but I think instead that Palestine should be part of Eurovision (in the future sometime, obviously this year would be difficult to swing). Like Azerbaijan and Armenia, both sides (no I don’t mean Hamas, I mean regular Palestinian musicians) should get to represent themselves. Eurovision is about coexistence and representation and unity.

  20. Sure. They have no chance to win otherwise. Maybe Sweden should just compete in the Swedeshvision instead. Guaranteed victory.

  21. Norway’s outward communication is equally pro-Hamas, but for a nation who’s old constitution had “Jews shall not have access to the country” as the first constitutional sentence, it’s not that surprising. At least many are consistently antisemitic. The most vocal are the liberal/communist politicians who is counting on getting some fat paychecks in one of the many tax funded aid organizations once they are yeeted out of the government for lies, corruption, theft and deceit (9 Ministers in the current administration have left so far for the beforementioned reasons, and more are waiting for further investigations). Over the many years they have existed, the aid organizations have solved nothing else than ensuring that these politicians can afford a new Tesla and have an apartment in Spain for holidays while paying no-income tax in Geneva.

  22. There’s a pathetic level of inability to judge things without cheerleading for one team here.

You can admit Israel’s right to exist without excusing its obvious and blatant crimes, the same way you can admit that Palestinians are not Hamas, but that there is a political issue in Palestine.

At the end, you’ll probably tell yourself the story of the virtuous IDF soldier because it allows you to sleep at night, but that doesn’t change the fact that Israel is indiscriminately bombing the shit out of Gaza. Yeah, they’re going to take a chunk out of Hamas, but also a lot more of the civilian population and they don’t even care about it.

The artists are trying to bring light to the way Israel is acting in Gaza, its their prerogative and instead of shitting on them, you could try to understand where they are coming from.

  23. Israel will be received very poorly, probably by the audience, not a bad idea to exclude them this year. Bad optics to keep them in.

  24. Now we know where little Greta got her antisemitism from
