On January 29th, Ukraine remembers the bravery of young heroes who fought near Kruty 106 years ago. Back in 1918, high school students, some as young as 16, stood up to defend Kyiv from Bolshevik forces

  1. Ukrainian leaders expected an attack from another direction, so their strongest troops were stationed elsewhere. When the Bolsheviks surprised them by attacking from the North, *the young defenders, numbering only 300-600, faced an enemy several times larger (estimates range from 4,000 to 7,000).*

The Battle of Kruty, fought near Nizhyn and Bakhmach, raged for hours on that January morning. Though outnumbered, the young heroes inflicted heavy losses on the Bolsheviks, killing and wounding hundreds. To avoid being trapped, they were ordered to retreat, but some students couldn’t escape the encirclement. *About 30 were captured, tortured, and executed at Kruty station by the Red Army.*

  2. Before Russian bots invade this:

These WERE NOT the same as the White Russian forces, they were for a sovereign, independent Ukraine.
The reason I state this is because the White army during the time was filled with monarchists and fascists alongside democratic opposition such as liberals and social democrats. The Russian propaganda forces will try to use these fascist and monarchist elements to stain the image of the Ukrainian forces by making a fake connection, don’t let it happen.
