Every dude in this pic was probably dead by January
So much US blood and treasure firghting the “nazi”, and europe os still at war in 2024. When will they get along over there.
Hitler’s ego at full display. This battle pretty much sealed the fate of his regime. These men never made it home.
If I remember, this was during the battle for the Red October Factory. Really grueling & wild fight according to the memoirs
Narrator: It didn’t work out…
Tikhistory on YouTube has an absolutely phenomenal Battleground: Stalingrad series. It’s extremely long, but every battle and detail on how the entire operation blau played out. It’s riveting. So very good. You all should check it out.
I don’t know why but watxhinf World War II in colors I also have this feeling that I hope German wins tihis. This is due to the fact that Eastern Europe was first liberated/free in 1990/1991. So 50 years of occupation. And only 3-5 years was by Hitlera design.
My grandad fought in the Stalingrad battle (on the Soviet side), was injured, but survived. Died in the 1960s, because of bad health.
I’m really not trying to be a smart ass here but I think that picture was taken in October around the 16th. That was when they paused fighting for two days 14th and 15th to gather reserves to make their final push on the factories and the whole city itself. They gathered tens of thousands of reserves for that push. Either way those dudes were probably cut to pieces not long after that photo was taken. Nice find!
If you search for “Army University Press” on Youtube; they have a ton of videos about major battles during ww2. It’s honestly some of the best battle analysis I’ve ever seen. They’re produced by the US Army for officer training etc. and the amount of detail and research that goes into them is insane.
I highly recommend them to anyone who nerds out over that kind of stuff!
On his way back in 1944, one of them tried to rape my grand great mother in front of my young father. Uncle and his father managed to just escape in the fields, soldiers shot in the dark in desperation.
They spend the night sleeping around the chimney, shamefully apologized, told them they lost the war, that Russians were close behind and that my family had to flee if they wanted to live.
That is what they did the following hours, with only freaking carpets and donkeys.
