What initiatives/pathways have people come across in regards to compensation for TsC with deeds for property abandoned from 63-74?
The property issue is very complex, and it’s impossible to judge just by headlines.
Are the compensations based on current value or value as it was in 74? How will houses be evaluated versus land?
It also has a large social dimension. Rich people do not live in GC houses, they live in new-built houses built on former (GC) farmland. Poor people live in the old houses with bad building quality. Many have a small village house but otherwise live out of minimum income; they may not be able to afford the 20% without selling their house; that means selling for a low value if many such houses come into the market at the same time where there is not so much demand for such old houses. Whereas for the rich, for them it may be just a little pocket money and they may not even be affected much in the end since the value of their property also raises.
Also, much what about land state land. Will the state also receive compensation — which state? Note that many Turkish immigrants live on state land; they would not need to pay the 20% then.
Also, depending on the way of compensation, there is a large inequality. Should a GC who has land in Trikomo/Iskele get much more money thatn a landowner in Morphou villages just because somebody build a casino or a tower on it whereas the Morphou land stayed farmland, (or worse, became an army camp)? But if the compensation is same/similar, based on 74 value, then 20% would be the same amount of money for the casino owner in Iskele just as for the poor farmer in Morphou.
