  1. According to them apparently Dublin needs more hotels too. Aye right

  2. The grass isn’t always greener on the *other* side. I see, but this woman went to Dubai. That Dubai is not a good place should not be news 😅

  3. From the article:
“Fined for being late, fined for particular dress codes or they ended up living on the outskirts in the desert and having to spend all this money on taxis.”

“It’s a very expensive country to live in, but there’s very cheap elements to it. Petrol is cheap, buying a car is cheap, you’re tax free, you’re given your accommodation, or you’re given an allowance.”

  4. Dubai is a kip. The last place on earth anyone should be going.

  5. The grass is only greener where it rains.

Bell X1; Eve the Apple of My Eye

  6. The grass is greener she just couldn’t make it and chose the wrong country

  7. “I didnt research where I was going and assumed it would be better.”

  8. Dubai is essentially where you go to make a few pound and come home. That’s it. Anyone I know of locally that went out they all were back within 3 years. Not really a place you’d put down roots.

  9. Friends of mine moved to UAE for a few years ago. Their plan was to make as much money as possible and come home once they had a lump sum. Their lives there sounded miserable. Everything is highly controlled and expat life gets irritating after a while. They were able to buy a house in Dublin for cash last year so it paid off for them but nothing about their experience would tempt me to go.

  10. ““To save, you have to sacrifice some of the experience, partying, all of that, and some of the travel. ”

    Jesus.. stop the presses!!!

  11. Dubai is just a weird place. It’s marketed as a desert paradise and as some display of a completely wealth driven society achieving greatness, but it’s all just so… fake.

Feels like it’s the exemplar of the techno feudalist society we’re increasingly going into, and it’s just a very unnerving thing.

  12. Woman goes to. Islamic country. Also where grass doesn’t grow. Picachu face after

  13. Dubai is the last place I’d want to move to! The very last!

  14. *Moves to absolute shithole*

See Ireland, this proves that emigration is not the answer. You should stay, rent in perpetuity, never retire.

  15. Of all the countries to say it about, I mean that’s predominantly a desert right. 🤣

  16. Someone told me Dubai is like living in a big shopping centre.

  17. A Slave state that promotes the worst excesses of materialism. Of course Leitrim is better.

  18. Moved to Poland for 5 months and absolutely loved it, but there’s always something missing when you’re not in your home country. Though if costs keep going up I’d rather have that something missing than have no future lol

  19. Breaking news not 100% of people who move abroad prefer it

  20. who in a sane state of mind would voluntarily go to an islamic country? even worse for a woman

  21. Only a fool would move to Dubai for ‘greener grass’ the primary issue here is cost of living. Why in the hell would you think it’d be any cheaper there? As others have pointed it out already I won’t even *start* about the cultural differences and the shock you’d get from that. Move somewhere normal, mind your notions.

  22. Tried it but it wasn’t for me, and how quickly Irish people lost their decency when talking to waiters and taxi men over there really shocked me. People who I would have considered thoroughly well mannered people when living at home. Whole place is a Kip.

  23. Basically it’s like being employed in a luxury shopping mall and resort, run by conservative, religious authoritarians without any democracy that’s funded by sticking a pipe in the ground to extract oil.

You’ll never be anything other than “the help” in what is quite literally described as a “tribal autocracy.”

  24. God help the kids this idiot is teaching. She doesn’t even understand the metaphor.

  25. It has to be said it’s hard to out-green the Emerald Isle.

  26. The grass is green in Dubai but it’s also plastic

  27. If you’re white you’re basically the upper crust elite who happen to get treated better solely because they need western skills to keep afloat and they are very racist to Indians and Africans. Don’t delude yourself if you go there. You’re perpetuating an slave like city state.

  28. I think this article should highlight one of the current shifts of why home ownership is so difficult for people. This girl simply stated that she saved nothing in dubai as partying was so expensive.

If people want to get a mortgage then they need to save, save, save. And one of the easiest areas to do this is when it comes to nights out.

btw im not talking about the cost of living crisis and housing crisis. Which makes saving next to impossible for most.

Wanting to expeirence everythign you can, holidays, travel, ectera and still expecting to be able to put money money into your savings account is just pure entitlement.

  29. Lived and worked abroad in quite a few countries, will be moving back to Ireland soon. Most of my friends who emigrated way back are also either back or planning to come back. Ireland is lovely, moreso when you’ve been away a long time

  30. From Dubai, 90% of us that grew up here spend our free time chilling in a cafe or in the desert, drinking tea / smoking shisha.

The whole “Las Vegas” side of Dubai is made for rich short-term tourists who usually stay for a month or two at most. It gets old really quickly if you live here and try to do that on a weekly basis.
