In comparison to last winter, we had 172 people in ICU on this date, up from 26 on December 27th.
This year it’s 92 now, up from 91 on Dec 27th.
The relative stability of the ICU levels this time is an increasingly robust sign of how much better a place we are in.
Even if they ICU rates do increase from here, everything points more and more to Omicron burning out long before they have much chance of catching up with the much slower spreading, longer infection period of the wave that peaked around 220 in ICU last Jan.

Brilliant, now let’s have a cautious re-opening of the nightclubs until 6.31pm!!
Close the morgues! Open the pubs!
It seems that you can book PCR tests across Ireland without issue and yet cases seem to be going down. I think that suggests that antigen positive people are not waiting for confirmatory PCR, so numbers are more accurate than in earlier days.

my two kids are in that number… one was a close contact and gave it to the other, one was tested Tuesday after positive test and result came at 47 hours, other tested last night and result took less that 24 hours, we had to use 2 different centres in two different counties.
one has a cough, nausea and aches the other isn’t talking yet so can’t really tell us how they feel but is particularly grumpy and unpredictable the last few days…. I have a stonking headache and tested negative but have another retest tomorrow as part of contact tracing.
