Mike Johnson Finally Admits Why He’s Killing the Border Deal

  1. > House Speaker Mike Johnson had a foot-in-mouth moment on Tuesday, absentmindedly admitting to reporters that he has courted Donald Trump’s opinion “at length” on the border he wants to kill.

    > “The former president has made it clear that he doesn’t want you guys to move forward on this, and judging by his comments, he clearly wants to campaign on this issue. Have you spoken to him about the Senate proposal, and are you simply trying to kill this to help him on the campaign?” probed CNN’s Manu Raju.

    > “No, Manu, that’s absurd,” Johnson retorted before ranting about the federal government’s job to “protect its citizens.”

    > “We have only a tiny, as you know, a razor-thin—actually, a one-vote majority right now in the House. Our majority is small, we only have it in one chamber, but we’re trying to use every ounce of leverage that we have to make sure that this issue is addressed.”

    > “I have talked to former President Trump about this issue at length, and he understands that. He understands that we have a responsibility to do here. The president, of course—President Trump wants to secure the country. President Trump is the one that talked about border security before anyone else did. He ran on, as you remember, building the wall. Why? Because he saw this catastrophe coming,” Johnson continued.

    > Republican officials have become increasingly audacious in giving away the game on the border deal. On Friday, Senator Josh Hawley explicitly tied the GOP’s border security grandstanding to a coordinated effort to hurt President Joe Biden’s reelection chances.

    > “There is absolutely no reason to agree to policies that would further enable Joe Biden,” Hawley told Fox News.

Just a reminder the bipartisan bill in the senate was formed by James Lankford (OK-R), who is one of the most conservative members in the senate, but apparently that’s not good enough for the House Republicans, nor his own party as he was [censured](https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2024/01/29/oklahoma-senator-james-lankford-censured-border/72393812007/) for working with Democrats.

Also that Senators did pass immigration bills in 2006 and 2013 with 62 and 68 votes, respectively. Both times, House Republicans did not address the proposals on the House floor.

  2. What a non-answer. Biden is asking for authority from Congress and he’s blocking that authority.

  3. Reagan’s henchmen worked with the Iranians to make sure the hostages weren’t released until after the election as well, fucking traitors.

  4. If I’m Jefferies I tell him to consider the bill or the Dems will vote to vacate and will not help save him.

  5. The GOP takes orders from Trump, a private citizen. The clown show never ends.

  6. This guy literally said last week that “now is not the time for border legislation”. He doesn’t give a damn.

  7. It isn’t about a better deal coming along. If they fix the border now before the election they lose a talking point.

  8. What’s really funny is if Trump had actually done anything meaningful about the border this wouldn’t still be a talking point.

I’m sure this is Obama’s fault somehow

  9. Because he is a traitorous clown that sucks up to the biggest traitor in U.S. history. He doesn’t give a flying fuck about the border. He is trying to score points with a traitorous asshole that will lose a third election. Mike Johnson is a fucking clown. He and DJT need to be arrested for orchestrating this farce of trying to destroy the United States

  10. They’re all assuming that Trump will actually win. Why is the media not asking what the GOP plans to do if Trump loses again.

  11. Not the sharpest tool in the drawer, that mike johnson

    Just a tool in general

  12. People going to realize one day that he’s probably the worst speaker of the house that was ever given a gavel in our nation’s history

  13. A total admission that they don’t GAF about fixing the problems. Just want power. How about pulling your GOP tongues out of Trump’s anus.

  14. Wow we can’t solve problems that cult losers want to campaign on apparently…

But what we CAN do is defy the Supreme Court and the Constitution and throw histrionics about how this is a crisis.

  15. Vote Blue screw this anti-American republican party that would rather play politics. Then get things done .Being led by Trumpy, the clown ,fraudster, rapist ,adultier, grifter, crook, liar ,insurrectionist, etc. It’s very obvious Trumpy and the do nothing republicans in the house don’t give a crap about this country or its people.

  16. ‘We have a responsibility to the American people. . . “

Only honest thing this douche said.

  17. The only way the Morlocks can win is by cheating and fuckery. They’re a lost cause.

  18. When was the last time republicans did anything regarding the issues they ran on? Of course, they don’t want the border issue solved, that’s why they cut thousands of border agents in their budget.

They want chaos. They want fentanyl. They want gun trafficking – its all good for their donors. They only pander to their elite donors, many of which profit from chaos. They can also use these issues to scare people back to church.

They’ve been crying about the same shit since the 90s. Fox has been pushing the same narrative for decades, changing the story a bit while feigning more and more outrage like someone can be perpetually irate for so long. Without propaganda, they’ve got zilch.

Fix it or get out of office.

  19. Johnson is now firmly declaring that not only is he derelict in his duties as speaker and as a member of the House of Representatives, but that he is conspiring with a proven insurrectionist leader and criminal defendant on national security level crimes. He should have a grand jury investigation convened into this action and indictments should follow along with a warrant for his arrest. We cannot allow a ex president to call shots, especially since the shots he’s trying to call are affecting national security *again*

  20. Yet another reason why the GOP shouldn’t get your vote!

  21. As suspected, they don’t care about the border issue, it’s just a tool to get votes.

I get that somehow, a program based on dick pictures, drag queens reading books and Taylor Swift being a satanic CIA operative might not get fantastic results. But it’s their doing. Nobody forced them to go that way.

But let’s not solve this “issue” for at least another year. They won’t suffer the consequences, people will.

The republicans don’t care about you and your issues. They don’t care about representing people, they want to rule.

    >Republican officials have become increasingly audacious in giving away the game on the border deal.

    Stupid Vietnam peace talks

  22. Headline is a little misleading. I thought the speaker would have stated he was a “traitor and a moron” and in that order.

  23. The fact that he refers to Trump as “The President” tells you just how fucked up they are

  24. So wait, “Trump called dibs” is their actual argument for not solving the crisis they’ve been raging about for years?

    These aren’t serious people.

  25. Democrats need to constantly say that Republicans are responsible for every illegal immigrant and fentanyl issue from now until the election.
