If any Americans on this subreddit wonder why Irish people don’t like it when you call yourselves Irish, go to minute 46 on this video.

  1. Yanks are just obsessed with race and it’s so fucking weird

“My dad looks very Protestant” wtf is she on about😂😂

  2. aigh so i’m an american and my grandparents immigrated from dublin. but i say that to say, i have no idea wtf she talking about lol is that what most of you see from us in america ?? i’m very lost on what she is trying to say

  3. Why should I deny or be ashamed of the traditions and mindset my mother brought to our family? She taught us to dance to antique reels, our first history books included a hand-sized, gold-edged 1930s set that waxed lyrical over the acts of Irish royalty, we were given books and music before toys because her mother had set those standards. My great-gran was a laundry slave, my grandmother was raised by mad nuns who sold her off to a rich parishoner at 15 as a ‘private nurse’ which was exactly what you’d expect. She was crippled by the police before being returned during her first attempt to escape to England, but managed the feat on the third attempt. Her Irish husband was murdered by unionists, for being an Irish scholar in a British brickyard. Ireland is my heart and my reason for activism – that our shared past doesn’t impress you doesn’t impress me.

  4. Irish people in real life don’t give a fuck. Redditors care because they’re little gatekeeping weirdos trying to feel special

  5. Awful shite. Had to stop watching after a few minutes. Just wildly exaggerated claims all over the place. Protestants have darker hair?? Largest walled city in the world?! What in the name of fuck is she on about. If you want to say there are still divisions in the north that’s one thing but she’s way off the mark.

What’s even more surprising is that a person with 2 Irish parents could be so ignorant on the nuance of actual life there.

  6. American no name comedian comes to Northern Ireland, presumably receives a lukewarm reception for being not very funny and invents ridiculous scenario to make the trip seem interesting.

  7. To all Americans here: I couldn’t give a bollix. You won’t come across this hate in real life. Just a bunch of miserable folks on r/Ireland who don’t like ye.

  8. Is this what counts as comedy? I couldn’t even make it 10 mins in listening to them. Really fake sounding and annoying. Does any hero have a time stamp?

  9. It seems she is spouting off that utter rubbish in multiple interviews
She calls Derry Londonderry – and says it was too dangerous for her and her mother to be in Belfast during “the day of Orange? …. some holiday in July” because they look Catholic…
She includes her nonsense from above too.

[Her rubbish starts about 41:00 min mark on this one](https://open.spotify.com/episode/4vmnplfgh2C8QRsuRkJHmO)

  10. I dunno, am I supposed to get indignant because this person has a loose grasp on the details of a country foreign to her. I mean, she probably has more understanding of NI than the majority of people in the UK.

Also as much accuracy as most Irish podcasts of foreign countries. What’s anyone’s knowledge of the Rwandan genocide other than Hutu v Tutsi. If even that.

Am not sure where she got the “black Irish protestants”, but other than that, what did she get wrong exactly other than exaggerating the scale of the divide.

  11. Didn’t listen to all but Who is this lunatic? Can’t fault other hosts, they seem to be just asking questions but this fucking lady explaining problems in Northern Ireland like I try to explain quantum mechanics after skimming its Wikipedia

  12. My wife is watching the new sex and the city reboot and there’s a talk show like this on it, and I spent about 30 mins explaining there’s no way in hell, something like that exists in the real world. But honestly it looks like they ripped it off exactly, she can never find out. Also since Martin Luther King, fuck sake Americans really have no sense of history.
