I know Trump has culpability but this story stems from the tea party and right wing culture around the world.

Of course it is. The entirety of the GOP are billionaire-funded obstructionists who lie, cheat, and steal their way to wealth and power. They shamelessly lie to the American people while sabotaging any effort at real governance and pursuing the agenda of their mega-donors. They don’t care about the border, their constituents, or America. They only care about maintaining power and, unfortunately for the rest of the world, the orange fuhrer is their best chance at doing so.

If Trump hypothetically never said anything about it I’m curious how it would all turn out. My guess is it’d still have minimal chance at passing through congress.

If Trump was in prison where he belongs, then this wouldn’t still be an issue. This is yet more of what happens when the government lets insurrectionists run free.
Biden is partially to blame for that due to the boneheaded idea of appointing Merrick Garland to head the DOJ for some idiotic reason.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Donald Trump has over a dozen GOP lawmakers as starred contacts in his phone, where he calls them up at any time, dictating to them “what they need to do.” He’s basically acting in some capacity as a “shadow president” for them.
Heck, I was surprised when Mike Johnson actually called Trump “*former* president.” Can you imagine Trump watching that spot and as soon as “former president” was said, he must’ve clenched his jaw with a scowl.
Well, he’s going to be a former free citizen before the year is out. Can’t wait for it.
