It’s lucky guns aren’t freely available here as they are in the US, or we could have been looking at more than just the perpetrator getting shot dead. The police really have very little choice when faced with something like this unfortunately, at least no one else got seriously hurt.

Edit: Rereading the article, it struck me that he could also have some undiagnosed issues. I wonder if people conficter of stalking and other interpersonal crimes should be enforced to have therapy.

I’m starting to think stalking needs to be treated purely as mental health issue, with the perps being sectioned indefinitely until they are cured. Jailing them seems to have little if any effect. At the moment it sort of feel like you can not rely on the judiciary to protect someone from a stalker which could well induce vigilante behaviour, and that is not a great road for a society to go down.
Why is the media in this country so eager to excuse the behaviour of crazy stalkers like this? Then are outraged at the police when a stalker kills their victim. Hypocrites. He’s not a victim. He showed up at the house of the poor person he’d been victimising with multiple weapons. How about some empathy for her, first and foremost?
He might’ve been mentally unwell. But this article goes way too far. I’ve seen articles from the Standard which are far less forgiving of the mentally ill, even when they’ve not really done anything wrong or committed non violent crime. But a stalker attempting murder- handwringing.
Hang on, have a read this wrong? Last year was spared a custodial sentence because of previous good character, whilst also being under a 5 year restraining order?
Edit: I did misread – restraining order given at the time of the suspended sentence. Not that it helped
Okay, but why didn’t the police try and use a taser first?
Why did the go from unarmed regular officers straight to marksmen?
Edit: everyone losing the mind in the replies just because I asked a genuine question is hilarious. To the people asking if I want to try and taser someone with a crossbow, no but then again I’m not a police officer because I don’t want to work in a dangerous environment, it’s literally what the signed up for.
Honestly sounds like nothing of value was lost with his death
As bad as it sounds, I’m genuinely relieved for his victim. I was stalked for five years (non-stop for the first two years, on/off for the following three – by a woman I went on two dates with when I was studying for my AS levels), so I know first-hand how it can ruin your life, although thankfully I was never really threatened with violence.

Suddenly this subreddit has a lot more sympathy for him and he’s just a lone wolf rather than a product of his culture.
At least now the people making racially-tinged “jokes” about the perpetrator being an aspiring rapper and the like in the other threads have their foot on their mouths.
I’m to assume that now we the know the guy is white-british the debate will predictably become about mental health.
Also he’s white so I’m slightly confused why so many posters yesterday were so focused on race as a possible issue.
Also, slightly off topic but when calling out fascist dog whistling on a post this morning, I was moderated because I gave the poster an out, and instead of taking it they moderated me for being insulting, they were happy to be accused of being a fascist but unhappy at being uneducated about the subject. The fascists are real and they are in force.
