    It feels like all this “Oscar snubbing” is, idk … like arguing that the critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes is too low when we already know that the audience score is the real weight?

    Have Hollywood awards ever really been anything more than elites patting each other on the back?

  4. All he’s doing is trying to get good press ahead of the Oscars to boost his chances of getting enough votes for Best Supporting Actor.

    He probably doesn’t give a damn about Margot Robbie, he’s just chasing good headlines.

    If he really cared about women, he’d have spoken up in defence of Brie Larson all those years ago when she got cast as Captain Marvel and was met with hundreds of death and rape threats and he said nothing while co stars like Don Cheadle spoke out.

    RDJ is as fake and self serving as it gets.

  7. I really don’t get why people keep comparing Margot Robbie to Ryan Gosling and America Ferra. It’s not like they were chosen over Robbie. They are all in different categories. So Gosling and Ferra beat out the other supporting actors to be nominated in their respective category while Robbie is up against other lead actresses. There was just more competition there. Especially since I haven’t heard anyone complain about the other women that got nominated in lead actress.

  8. Greta should have been nominated for director. There wasn’t another film this year that more significantly showed how much a director contributes to a film project than Barbie. This should have been recognized no matter what you thought of the film.

    > If you read the article he was trying to make a general point about the showy performance vs the subtle performance in film but I don’t think this was a very good example. Robbie wasn’t exactly an inconspicuous background character.

    > Having said that, there is a lot to say as Downey notes about acting being also reacting, and specifically listening. I remember Spencer Tracy was always hailed for being like a master of listening as an actor, and it’s true. A lot of even great actors, if you watch them in a scene where they have no dialogue, are seemingly just waiting for their turn to speak.

    > It takes a special actor to listen to someone else talk as if they’re hearing it for the first time.

  18. Honestly, everyone was amazing, which is part of the reason it did so well, but Ryan Gosling was my favourite part of the movie. I could feel he was living for the role and whenever he was on screen I was so happy!

  27. I enjoyed the movie, but I think they should all be proud it got any nominations. Because it’s not that special. It’s just a fun movie that probably didn’t have any right being as fun as it was. That said, roles like Robbie’s Barbie often get overshadowed by flashier performances. That’s pretty standard for the Oscars. People need to stop acting like this is something new.

    Aside from that, Robbie and Gerwig both got nominated. Robbie as a producer and Gerwig for writing.
