I’m guessing every mildly competent lawyer tells Trump he’s got losing cases and should settle / plea bargain. But Trump’s ego won’t accept that so he hires hacks who tell him what he wants to hear, and then they face plant at trial.
The problem that he has is that even if gets Clarence Darrow as a lawyer, his actions are not defendable. Even good lawyers look terrible trying to defend this dude.

Even if he wins on appeal, he has to come up with $83 mil in cash or a very expensive bond for months as the court must hold the deposit. Looks like he may be shooting for an even higher penalty now. The first thing any good lawyer does is tells his client to shutup. This is why Donald Trump doesn’t hire good lawyers, he can’t stop himself from confessing to crimes. His brain just won’t allow any lie to sit for long enough. Eventually he’ll trickle-truth it out to everyone; A lawyers worst nightmare of a client.
All he had to do was not do defamation on truth social during the trial. I doubt he will find lawyers brave enough to tell him to shut up.
He could save a lot of money if he just plead guilty and shut up.
