  1. Might be time to bring out the bayonet again and practice close combat with it. Also I feel like sleet shooting might become a thing for squads. Have a guy with bird or buck shoot and a semi-automatic shotgun for taking down FPV drones.

  2. Isn’t the trench the result of neither side using its airforce effectively?

  3. So you are saying America will have to relearn how to save France again, just like we did in both world wars, the Cold War, and the French and Indian War.

  4. One has to wonder how different the Russian offensive attack would have been if they didn’t treat it as a clueless occupation

They lost their best soldiers within the first 6 months, current trench warfare in both sides is generally a bunch of mediocre conscripts

  5. Trench warfare is dreadful but “learning it” gets you nothing because the key changes that have resulted in trench warfare was the use (a) effective anti-tank ordinance and (b) armed drones and especially swarms of armed drones effective against personnel and armored vehicles.

Considering the explosion of AI, both drones and unmanned land vehicles would command the future battlefield unless means are devised to incapacitate them quickly. There is the possibility, of course, of devising armor that is not penetrable by the current ordinance. But this would take some time.

  6. Not necessary. In 10 years it will be robots fighting robots.

  7. The thing is that until now, Western countries were always attacking in numbers, much weaker opponents usually exhausted by sanctions. Something like hyenas. This is the first big war after so many years. 18 or more countries are trying to push Russians. Completely different story where both sides have real time info, satellites, etc. It is almost impossible to prepare troops in masses because of this because the other side will immediately notice it and react.

Calm down, once this is over, things will get back to normal and NATO will resume regular attacks on helpless or isolated “enemies”.

  8. French military problem (and NATO) is that we are afraid to go offensive mode like when germans first invaded Poland then blitzed us in WW2.

Waiting for the enemy to attack you is never a good idea. NATO shouldnt be afraid to invade Russia. Only things bullies understand is force.

  9. If there’s a country that Russia will not fuck with its France! So maybe the trench warfare training will not come in handy, but that’s not a bad thing. Lot of respect for French culture and my fellow Québécois!
