  1. How great it is to have our elected officials hounded out of politics over imported conflicts that have nothing to do with us.

  2. Looks like someone failed the *”Don’t overreact to someone having a different opinion to you [difficulty level: impossible]”* challenge.

  3. His decision to quit is nothing to do with facing electoral annihilation this year, I’m sure. Nothing at all.

  4. A mutual agreement between citizens of a nation to respect the rule of law and tolerate differing opinions is the most integral part of a democracy. It’s not just a form of government, it’s the rules we all agree to play by in order to retain a functioning society.

This is what happens when you introduce a load of people who didn’t agree to these rules into a democratic system.

  5. ‘I’ve been driven out of politics by death threats – for supporting genocide*’

    There I fixed it.

    * I know, it’s not genocide you say. I think it is, you think it’s not. Semetic semantics. It’s lots of dead babies and we are not lifting a finger to stop it. That’s why our politicians are under pressure.

NOTE I don’t condone death threats, not even for this. I’m just saying if you support Israel’s actions in Gaza as a politician representing a populace, expect heavy resistance from people who still have their souls

  6. Tbf supporting Israel and their actions is tantamount to saying “oh aye, I think *that specific group o folk* is less than human and should be wiped out.”

Imo young Michael can fuck right off.

  7. Welcome to the real world where 13 years of austerity has left police in shambles n the society feeling unsafe

  8. Symptomatic of a liberal democracy in poor health, where we have a large population of – largely – recent arrivals who do not buy into the prevailing social contract, the nations political norms and do not identify with the culture of the place they now reside. And successive governments have done little to nothing to address the issue out of cowardice or stupidity – it’s hard to decide. (As well as all of the many other failures of their governments, feeding into and compounding the issue)

There are dark dark days ahead for this country unless we are blessed with some people of great character and moral courage who step forward to make the difficult and unpopular decisions which will be required to turn back the tide.

  9. A kid I know at university recenrly felt forced to stay silent at a student bash when the toast was “death to all Israelis”. He’s British but his parents and grandparents are Israeli.

The rise (again) of really, really blatant antisemitism in the UK is just wild. Its like “never again” became “never again, unless we think they could do with another kicking”.

  10. His office is literally down my street , it’s 2 minutes walk from the local synagogue.
