It’s madness how packed the train was, I don’t know how people breathe on it

  1. So I know “blah blah underinvestment in public transport” and “blah blah we shouldn’t have to put up with it” but this looks entirely normal?

  2. Completely normal pre-Covid but unusual now with lots of people working from home.

Maybe a bit of disruption, the odd cancellation or late train.

  3. >It’s madness how packed the train was, I don’t know how people breathe on it

I haven’t had to do this in years now (praise perma WFH) but this was my experience every day for years, is it not normal now?

  4. It was like this often when I used it regularly 2015 – 2019

  5. Sometimes, posts like this make me feel enormous gratitude that I no longer have to take the Thameslink. Thank you.

  6. why should we subsidise your lifestyle choices?

  7. This is punishment for not living at the top of a tube line in zones 4-5

  8. Thameslink is an appalling line at the best of times

  9. Damn, that’s a tight squeeze. I have a similar experience every morning on the central line these days. Grinds you down.

  10. Less trains running per hour this week (because of staff issues/strikes I guess).

  11. I get this train everyday – it’s never usually like this. Strikes on trains services from Brighton into London stations have made everyone pack out the Thameslink ones. This week has been absolutely horrendous.

  12. At what point will we need to end up with those folks at stations who’s sole purpose is to shove people in so they can close the doors?

  13. Funnily enough I was probably somewhere in there. It was horrible this morning.

  14. Probably because there’s industrial action affecting Thameslink this week

  15. Is this your first time in London? Plenty of room there, hop in!

  16. I remember those days…. 45 quid return.

Moved to Sydney, $5 a day to commute to the next city… clean trains lots of seats.

British rail is a joke now.

  17. Thats what the Victoria line looks like every morning. Usually have to let two or three trains go before I can board one.

Overground was a bit busy this morning too

  18. Trouble is that people are back to pre-pandemic levels Tuesday-Thursday but (unless I’m misremembering) there are fewer rush hour trains because the low numbers on Mondays and Fridays mean they’re not seen as needed.
