Try to picture Trump making a call like this. He’d either turn it into a campaign speech where everything was someone else’s fault or he’d tell them how great he was.
Or he wouldn’t bother, because he only likes soldiers who don’t die or get captured.
That’s a stark contrast to “Your guy knew what he signed up for.”
Trump, on the matter: “He knew what he signed up for.”
Never let a man like that in the White House.
I wish more people saw this side of Biden. With all the hate and vitriol in this country it would really help tone things down to know we all can share in pain and grief, and gain hope together.
Good man.
Joe’s obvious and sincere compassion *shouldn’t* be notable, given he’s the US President, but very unfortunately is.
Say what you will about the man but damn he knows how to make that human connection and it’s real too.
Now that is “presidential” versus saying. “I’d solve this in one day. Or “get over it”‘
It’s nice to see a President do presidenting
I truly do believe Joe is a good man.
> “The day will come when you walk by a park you and Kennedy used to play in or you’ll open a closet and you’ll smell the fragrance of her clothing or something like that, and you’ll smile before you cry. That’s when you know you’re going to make it,” Biden told the grieving parents. “It takes a hell of a long time to get there, but I promise you you’ll get there. I know that is no consolation now.”
I’m not crying. You’re crying.
Joe Biden’s qualities as a man and a leader are clear to anyone who cares to see them.
Holy shit. That’s presidential.
I’ve seen too many right wingers basically calling all of this weakness. I don’t understand why the rightwing fetishizes, but also completely dismisses our soldiers.
Trump: only losers are KIA.
Biden’s quiet competence is the hopefully-not-fleeting breath of fresh air our country needed after Fuhrer 45. It’s a shame quiet competence doesn’t get the attention that loud incompetence does.
Trump would just tell the parents “she knew what she signed up for”
Back in 2020, Biden wasn’t my first choice. I even cringed a bit when he was getting elected. But I have to admit that I was wrong. He isn’t a terrible choice and has exceeded a lot of expectations. This one is different. I’m just grateful he knows how to console families that lost loved ones
Trump mocks them, Biden embraces them. This is the absolute best way to sum up a large portion of Trump supporters.
The article about Dr Jill Biden in Vogue (Aug 2021) is long-form, but it’s worth it.
[Dr Jill Biden article](https://www.vogue.com/article/first-lady-dr-jill-biden-profile)
The Bidens are good ppl, they DO give a damn about humans, and the article itself just so clearly shows the stark godawful contrast between Melania (selfish hollow opportunist) and Jill (you know, an educated empathetic woman with a fucking SOUL who used her positions as Vice Presidential Lady and Presidential First Lady to make big changes for others?!).
My son is in flight school for the US Army. He’s training to be a helicopter pilot.
I never liked the idea of him joining the military but I respected it was his choice to make. Part of my reservation is the feeling that these kids go die for some rich man’s war.
These headlines hit differently now. Every time I see a story like this I know it could be mine. My heart breaks for the families. I’m glad to read this. As heart wrenching as it is, it’s nice to see the compassion for the families. What a devastating loss.
My cousin was murdered in Philadelphia. President Biden wrote a beautiful letter to my aunt and uncle expressing his condolences. He does this regularly, it seems, and not only when it is high profile.
It’s just one more reason why I’m going to vote for him, even though I’d prefer a younger candidate. Not just because I can’t stand the thought of another GQP presidency, but because I don’t trust a president that doesn’t understand what it means to lose something. It’s one of many reasons why I voted for Obama, and it’s why I’ll vote for Biden. The orange piss baby doesn’t know what it means to lose anything real. He can’t even acknowledge his terrible business sense or bring up losing money except to garner sympathy he doesn’t deserve so he can just make *more* money.
Put all politics aside.
If want people to keep serving in the US Military, their moms need to know their commander in chief can have this conversation.
Donald Trump is incapable of this conversation. Mentally incapable of absorbing someone else’s pain or sacrifice.
Meanwhile, Trump says these soldiers are “Suckers and losers…”
A Commander in Chief to be respected – a welcomed 180-degree change from the disreputable previous occupant of that office.
I have a son over there. I stomach hurts 24/7.
This is what it looks like to have a President who is a decent man.
I disagree with a great deal of President Biden’s politics. But when he speaks, I hear a real human being who is capable of understanding the pain of other human beings.
How can anyone even begin to compare him with a mindless, brutal, vindictive sociopath like former President Trump?
