  1. This is fucking huge. LFG.

I really wonder what they gave Orban to make him agree?
Also, is there any info on how long it will take for the aid to get to Ukraine?
Edit: all he got was a review and possibility to veto every two years

  2. Finally, this is great news!

The question of how Orban was persuaded remains a bit nebulous though. The statement by the Commission says “The European Council recalls its December 2020 conclusions on the application of the conditionality mechanism.” The conditionality mechanism is the one that allows the EU to block financial aid to an EU country in cases of breach of rule of law principles.

So, what does it mean that the Commission “recalls its conclusions”? Are the funds for Hungary released? Will they be? Could they be? I guess we’ll find out in the next few weeks.

EDIT: This seems promising from the Guardian’s live coverage:

    >Did Viktor Orbán get a compromise before agreeing the deal this morning?

No, say delegates with some of the key member states involved in the negotiation this morning.

    “He got nothing,” said one.

Or, as another said: “He just didn’t see any more options. He cashed in.”

  3. The beginning of the end for Russian occupation? I wonder what kinda deal Orban got out of this

  4. No serious concessions to Orban either – he caved.

Now let’s hope they won’t use the rest of the summit to appease the annoying farmers and walk back on the climate agenda.

  5. Finally !

Sad EU had to threaten Hungary to cooperate. Why is one of the most useless country in EU such a pain in the ass?

  6. Watch out Poland and Hungary. A new bottomless money-pit has arisen!

  7. Well done Europe! Let’s keep moving in the right direction!

  8. Let’s see this €50bn will be spent.

More patriots, more long range missiles and more F16s probably would be best, I’m assuming?

  9. Huge news. This will mean Ukraine had support untill America sorts itself out

  10. So Mr. Orban was a drama queen who wanted some attention and when he finally accepted, they were celebrating like they liberated Ukraine.

    Punish this idiot already.

  11. Now the question is how much of these money will be stolen by corrupt people. I still believe that instead of sending the money we should just buy the equipment for this price and send it to them.

  12. Given the corruption levels in Ukraine I would like to see this to be properly auditioned at least once a year, so people know for sure where the money go.

  13. Just for more context, this package is actually less of military nature and more for investments and reconstruction.

    June 2023 proposal: [https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/qanda_23_3353](https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/qanda_23_3353)

    • Pillar I – financial support in the form of grants and loans to the State

    • Pillar II – a specific Ukraine Investment Framework

    • Pillar III – technical assistance and other supporting measures

Furthermore: *”The overall amount of the Facility is proposed to be up to €50 billion for the period from 2024 to 2027 for all types of support.”*

  14. Good. I’d rather pay whatever Ukraine needs, than have Russians destroy our countries next. It’s a win win either way. We get a stronger ally and weaken Russia at the same time.

  15. they already spent billions of dollars and it didnt worth it. it would be time to cut off the money for zelenskys war…. and finally have peace

  16. Só 10 bi  for internal ucranian corruption and 40 to spend on  the US defense industry.  It’s great. It’s not like we need that money, we can always print some more.

  17. Momentous, didn’t expect that honestly, the local Russian asset didn’t interfere, not quite sure what to make of that

  18. I’m sure that none of that money will be siphoned off.

  19. Even the most delusional nafos now are agreeing that Ukraine is never getting those taken territories back. How about a peace deal and stop wasting precious lives for a war that Ukraine can only lose even more territory from?

  20. Im very glad to hear this. Now lets get Sweden in NATO too.

  21. I really don’t believe that more and more weapons will save lives. In order to achieve piece, less people need to die. Russians & Ukrainians.
That’s why in the past, politicians used to negotiate over who gets which piece of land.
That’s also why politicians used to negotiate for a ceasefire or peace. Guess that’s not real anymore…
