  1. Scot Gov pushed for an earlier lockdown

    “Why couldn’t they just align with the UK government. Fucking nats”

    Scot Gov didn’t push for an earlier lockdown

    “Needless deaths because of sturgeon and the fucking nats”

    Can’t win. Really.

  2. I thought Sturgeon said yesterday that they would have liked to lock down a week or two earlier? I’ve not been following this word for word so I may be wrong.

  3. COVID discovered – November 2019

    Lockdown in the UK commenced – March 2020

    Flight to the UK from Beijing – 10 hours

  4. Man I wish we would grill the folks down south even half as intensely as this enquiry.

  5. This can’t be right- I was told only yesterday by a nationalist on here that NS should be exempt from any blame for deaths in the pandemic as Westminster prevented her locking down earlier.

  6. When are we going to have a frank conversation that places like Florida spent months less time in lockdown than we did and had the same outcome? Despite a pensioner populace too?

    The Scottish gov were unhinged in their desire to not be England, even against good evidence that once vaccinated it was time to move on.

    Whole thing boils my piss when morons like Desantis are producing better results than our leaders.

  7. How soon we forget that lockdown – no matter when implemented – was never really about “saving lives”. At least, not in the early days of the pandemic.

    It was about flattening the curve so that emergency services would not be overwhelmed. Johnson – in one of his early press conferences announcing lockdown – emphasized this point and how “people would die before their time”. In short order, however, it went from “flattening the curve” to “eliminating the virus” which was never really on the cards.

    Back then it was a novel virus with no vaccines or therapeutics. Info. on how to treat was minimal (remember the big ventilator push only for this to subside once it became evident that they may do more harm than good for those patients with Covid filled lungs?). Lockdown – as China proved after being sealed away for 2 years – didn’t stop Covid. It just delayed the inevitable. The vulnerable in March 2020 were still vulnerable in September of that year. And were still vulnerable in January 2021. It was only when vaccines, therapeutics and knowledge entered the domain did the tide begin to turn. And, of course, subsequent virus mutations.

    The narrative that “late lockdowns caused unnecessary deaths” is extremely questionable and quite probably false. Florida – overflowing with millions of the aged – didn’t lockdown and its excess death numbers don’t look too dissimilar from those states and countries that did. China locked down for 2 years but when unlocked Covid cut through the population like a knife.

    We simply got unlucky by living in a period of global pandemic in a part of the world which had forgotten how to treat them, how to respond and how to behave. Our descendants – decades hence – will endure the very same. Hopefully they will look at the 2020 – 2022 period, and inquiries such as this, and learn lessons.

  8. Where’s the rest of the response? From the context she went on to say;

    * No, she couldn’t push for a lockdown without understanding the UK Government’s approach, which wasn’t formed until the March 23rd COBRA meeting, or;
    * No, she couldn’t be fucked.

    Thus potentially leading to two very different concusions.

  9. They should never have locked down at all. Total knee jerk CCCP policy

  10. Boris Johnson said one of his biggest regrets was treating this as a public health matter, rather than a national emergency akin to a terrorist attack or a war.

    Treating it as the latter would have been a coordinated pan-UK response and taking devolution out of the picture.
