Our country is designed so that the powerful can destroy a town and just move on with no consequences.
And yet some think a new law will somehow make it better.
IIRC East Palestine Ohio, that area of the state on both sides of that border, voted over 80% in favor of Donald Trump and the Republicans.
These aren’t stupid people, these are full grown adults. As history has shown, when you vote in favor of tax cuts/deregulations for corporations, and AGAINST things that promoote safe labor conditions and good environmentlal policies….this is what you get, this is what occurs. Rail workers were striking about how unsafe working conditions were just months earlier to this, and without a doubt Republicans especially were decisively opposed to their strike in favor of corporations like Norfolk Southern.
Open a history book. PG&E and Hinkley California, Bhopal India, BP Oil Disaster, hell I’m 6 miles from Time’s Beach MO, because it was a lot more profitable to dispose of Vietnam war Dioxin in a residential than it was to “properly dispose of it”.
This is what they voted for, and sometimes when you let a fox in your henhouse, this is what happens. For the East Palestine Residents that voted against that…I’m sorry, if there’s an innocent set of victims, it’s them. I guess the moral of story is don’t play russian roulette on some of these matters in the ballot box.
