“Biden’s handling of Putin may tell Xi Jinping how resolutely the U.S. would defend Taiwan.”
Is there any indication in Chinese sources that they’re actually interested in this, or is the classic tendency by Western observers to conflate all of their problems.
Russia can actually take Ukraine and the Baltics through a long land border. It’s questionable if China could take Taiwan, and even if they can, a sea invasion would be a lot more costly.
I don’t know about Xi but if the US will be unwilling to get entangled in Ukraine, I would interpret that as their intention to focus on the Pacific and Taiwan.
I mean common, even the americans know that the Atlantic is just a CIA mouthpiece.
This article is a load of bullshit.
You just can’t compare Taiwan – a rich, democratic state, in a strategic geographic location next to one of the US’s biggest rivals, supplying the world with Microchips which US and their allies Economy relies on. Oh, and a motherfucking Island, which makes it almost impossible to invade.
And Ukraine, basically a Failed State (sorry), offering nothing to the US other than a potential NATO base (which IMHO is safe to assume, is never going to happen).
That, and it assumes that Russia wants to conquer Ukraine. Hell no. Novorosya (eastern/southern Ukraine) – Kharkhiv, Odessa and etc? Yeah. It would be nice to have. But Russia doesn’t need Ukraine, especially considering western Ukraine is Pro-EU and NATO. What Russia needs is a buffer state between Russia and NATO.
And yeah China is watching. But guess what? The Entire world is watching. Doesn’t matter if you are Russia, China, or the West. Hell, China is probably scared as fuck on the kind of deal the US makes with Russia. I could easily see both the US and Russia making the decision of keeping the status quo and keeping Ukraine as a buffer state in return of Russia being a potential ally in regards to China. India and Russia are already buddying up. The addition of the West and East Asia is scary for China.
