  1. I wonder if those strikes will be more significant than other strikes they have done so far. Otherwise, this is basically business as usual (for the last few months), disguised as a retaliation plan.

Shouldn’t lead to an escalation though, so that’s good.

  2. If they’re specifying that the targets are Iranian, it sounds like the US will not only be striking weapons caches, but also IRGC officers

  3. I hate to say it, but these telegraphed strikes are weak sauce that are all for show. We’ll get an impressive number of munitions fired and BDA will verify that targets were destroyed, but really does nothing but generate a headline. I get not wanting to start a war with Iran, but why do we (not just this administration) always announce it? We spend billions on stealth aircraft and standoff munitions only for our politicians to tell them exactly what we’re going to do.

  4. This is disappointing. This will embolden Iran to just continue funding its bullshit attacks. You can kill Americans and the only response is more of what we’d already been doing.

  5. Yeah this is a weak ass response, you don’t talk to the press if you want to actually do something meaningful, this is theatre.

  6. “The strikes would take place over a number of days, officials say, and weather conditions will likely dictate when they are launched.”

Seems like a weak response all for show. To deter escalation they’re giving a heads up for anything important/personnel to be moved and they’ll bomb some munitions depots as retaliation to satisfy Americans.

  7. Please at least make the money well spent, not throw in those location that they already left, might as well send it to Ukraine. Better than play games with Iran

  8. Why am I reading about our military’s plans on the internet before they happen?

Edit: I love the enormous variety of answers here

  9. So basically if it’s cloudy and it rains, it’s not gonna happen??

  10. Empty response I guess, if you are telling them what you are doing then you don’t really want to inflict any loss.

  11. I’ll wait to see the final results to make a final judgment but as of now it seems this will be major fail for the Biden administration. This comes off as really weak. RIP American soldiers.

  12. Tbh, even if these targets are the Iranian military, I don’t see it deterring Iran unless they are in Iran itself. Israel regularly launches airstrikes at IRGC targets in Syria, and that has done nothing to deter Iran. How will this be any different?

  13. Thanks for letting them know.

    What a clown show.

Do the houthis warn our ships before attacking them like the thugs they are?

  14. So long as Iran is untouched they’ll continue funding these people to rebuild and attack again.

  15. More proxy shit. Iran just attacked an American base in an ally’s country and they say, “no let’s go heat it up somewhere else”. This is not a statement of power, it’s a statement of fear of escalation. And it will inevitably escalate anyways.

  16. Incapacitate the enemy before they grow to be even an even greater threat.

  17. I’d be fine if the US took out Shahed production facilities in Iran. They are providing them to militants that attack ships in the Red Sea, attack Israel, and are providing them to Russia to attack Ukraine. Iranian proxies and Iran have made themselves the enemies to any major world nation with the exception of Russia.

All in all, Iran’s production of these weapons alone have been responsible for thousands of civilian deaths and billions of dollars of damage to the world.

Iran has little to no capability to retaliate against the US directly, and wouldn’t if only weapons production facilities were hit. It wouldn’t be worth fighting over. No one would stand with Iran when it’s Iran disrupting global shipping.

If Iran or Iranian throws a tantrum over it, then that’s on them. They don’t HAVE to be blowing up and taking ships in the Red Sea. They don’t HAVE to be enabling terror campaigns across the globe. They can stop at any point.

However, we do HAVE to protect civilian lives and the sea lanes of the world. Billions of people depend on the freedom of navigation we protect and enforce. The time for letting Iran skate by on plausible deniability is long past over.

  18. This is just weakness of the Biden administration. Lots of people in here trying to put a spin on it.

  19. Now that we’ve warned them, we just have to wait until everyone has escaped safely. Don’t want to get anyone hurt w our little ‘retaliation’.

  20. They’ve taken so long and done so many press releases on it that I think all that will be left to strike is empty buildings or tents. Maybe that’s the point. They want to make it appear like a strong response but are so afraid of Iran striking Israel that they can’t really make a strong response.

  21. Absolutely beautiful demonstration of soft power inevitably backed by hard military action to announce it like this. Someone somewhere has a large brain.
