Good morning/Huomenta,

A strike of technical aviation personnel is happening. Article on Yle below :

However, I do not understand the reason behind that strike, “Collective bargaining of unions” sounds blurry to me.

Is there any problem with the working conditions ?

Thanks,

  1. It’s the season for collective agreements (työehtosopimus), and it looks like based on the news, that one of the unions (PRO) is trying to stronghand themselves into the negotiations. According to the other union, PRO doesn’t represent employees within the scope of those particular collective agreement negotiations. I’m not familiar with the unions, and since airports employ a wide variety of people, one group striking could cause flight interruptions.

In Finland, unless they’re otherwise agreed, pay raises are usually negotiated by unions. That includes “index raises”, which are usually around 0,5-1,0%. Those are especially ridiculous when inflation is around 5%. These biennial negotiations usually revolve around small raises and other fine-tunings to the agreements.
