  5. Considering the backlogs, if rather CT scanners and X-ray facilities be used for people with medical needs.

    I’m currently waiting on a CT scan to look for any reoccurence of cancer. Although it is non-urgent I’d rather there weren’t delays as it’ll soon get pretty urgent again if they find something

  7. Someone who self identifies as being under 18 is a child, and should be treated as a child in every way, because that is what they are.

    Nobody can control when they are born. Just because someone happened to have been born 25 years ago doesn’t mean that they aren’t 14, and they should be treated like any other 14 year old. Age is a protected characteristic, we shouldn’t discriminate on that basis.

  8. This ought to make for some interesting questions for a particular group. There’s a not insignificant overlap between the “refugees bad” and “vaccines bad” crowds, and a lot of the latter argue that it’s a medical procedure and shouldn’t be forced on people. I’m looking forward to seeing Olympic-quality mental gymnastics rolled out to square that circle.

  9. So something already commonplace in France, that would require consent and that is only used in cases where there is doubt is evil? Why does this stuff always attract such melodrama. If it is true 2/3 of cases where there is doubt find the person is an adult then there clearly is a problem. We are talking about adults being classed as children and put into schools are we not?

    It’s not about how other people think of her and her plans, she will go ahead regardless because she only cares what she thinks. She does not want advice, criticism or help; she wants yesmen who will do what she says and agree with everything she says.   13. So to begin with the methodology of estimating age with x-rays comes from the 1950’s.

    It is based on a group of x-rays taken of just over a 1000 middle class American children between the ages of 0 – 19 in the 1930’s and 1940’s.

    The atlas of anatomical markers which is used in identifying age is derived from the findings from the standard skeletal development at three-month intervals during the first year of life; six-month intervals from one to five years; and one year intervals up to 19 of these children.

    It has been proven many times over that it is inaccurate in trying to find the age of a person.

    The technique of x-raying the Hand / Wrist was designed as a tool to assess the general physical development of children rather than to determine chronological age.

    Due to the biological variation in human development which can be determined by many different factors from environmental to genetics means that any assessment of age based on analysis of anatomical growth markers is only an estimate and will certainly contain a degree of error.

    In other words trying to identify the age of a person born and raised in say war torn Iraq using data derived from x-raying Middle class American children from the 1930’s and 1940’s is utter ridiculous.

    So for those trying to defend Patel using this methodology you can now stop.

  16. It’s easy to make tree ring jokes, but actually, it’s important to know whether someone’s actually 17 or 18, and if they know they’ll get vastly more favourable treatment, of course they’ll claim to be 17.

    What these campaigners actually want is no kind of control on immigration and for all asylum cases to be granted, no questions asked. This is just a way of pushing for that end while sounding plausible.

    If you read the article you’ll see that all the proposed ways to help verify someone’s age are already done in other European countries, so it’s not like she’s come up with something uniquely evil.

    I went to school with so called “teenage” refugees. After few years of friendship, he admitted to us that he was actually 25 back home, but said he was 16.
    It become a comom joke to ask them “so what’s your real age back home?”.
    Most of them (Afghanistanis, kurdish) are subtracting up to 10 years of their real age.
    Now think about how you feel about them sitting next to your daughters. Or forming relationships, which I saw many do.
    Yes Priti Patel is a cunt, but I approve of this.
    Seeing a hairy adults pose the same age as us in PE , while we hadn’t even matured yet…just wrong looking back.

  36. I’m guessing that those opposing this on here have never been abroad? Your asked to show a passport to prove who you are, your asked to declare if you have something you shouldn’t, your bags are scanned and searched, you have to walk though a metal detector (because they don’t trust you aren’t carrying something you shouldnt). All of that just to have visit another country.

    So she’s asking for someone who is seeking protection in the uk to prove who they are by having an xray? What’s the issue here? Surely if your that fearful of persecution an xray is pretty low on the agenda for not seeking sanctuary
